Michael Egnew Is An All-American From Missouri, 'Tight End U'

The Missouri Tigers are officially known as Tight End U. For the third time in the last four years, a Mizzou tight end is an All-American joining Martin Rucker (2007) and Chase Coffman (2008). (Apparently winning this doesn't mean a successful NFL career).

Egnew ended the regular season with 83 receptions for 698 yards and four touchdowns. Egnew is a relatively new phenomenon in Columbia, Mo. as he caught just seven balls prior to this season.

Via the Tigers:

Egnew leads all of the nation's tight ends with 83 receptions, and his 698 receiving yards is also second-most among all tight ends, with those figures coming against the nation's 9th-toughest schedule, according to the NCAA.  Egnew's signature game was a 13-catch, 145-yard performance against San Diego State, and he's also had double-digit outings against Illinois (10 catches, 60 yards, 1 TD) and at Texas A&M (10-87).  Egnew also had a two-touchdown game against Colorado, when he had six catches for 52 yards in all.

Good Day for Mizzou's Egnew With Walter Camp AA Spot | Campus Corner
Michael Egnew, Missouri's junior tight end, didn't win the John Mackey Award as the top player at that position in the country. That honor, on Thursday, went to Arkansas' D.J. Williams.

Egnew earns 1st-Team All-America honors
The University of Missouri football program has produced some outstanding players at every position under the guidance of 10th-year head coach Gary Pinkel, but perhaps no position has been more heralded than the tight end spot (where Pinkel himself was an honorable mention All-America in his playing days at Kent State). Mizzou is fast becoming known as "Tight End U," and that moniker rings even louder with the news that junior TE Michael Egnew (Plainview, Texas) has become the third MU tight end in the last four years to win 1st-Team All-America status.
