While some reports say Texas A&M to the SEC is still in play, Geoff Ketchum of Orangebloods.com reports via Twitter the wheels are in motion to save the remaining Big 12 teams.
Source from one of the North schools tells me that their coaches have been told their school has been saved.
Who to believe? Orangebloods.com has been all over the conference expansion story but it would appear their sources reside in Austin, TX -- not the Big 12 North.
Meanwhile, PowerMizzou.com has issued a report (via 610 Sports on Twitter) that Missouri AD Mike Alden has scheduled a 4:00 PM meeting with Tigers coaches.
Are the two reports connected?

The fact that the Big 12 North...
has to be “saved” is a little bit of a tough pill to swallow.

it has nothing to do with being a sub-par conference. It has everything to do with money and greed and nancy-pants schools who can’t handle sucking so they run off to try again.

The question is ...
Do we link this rumor to the rumor that Texas A&M told the SEC that they wanted Mizzou to come along for the ride (ie: Mizzou is ‘saved’ from being conference-less in the Big XII implosion after by flirting with and being rejected by the Big Ten)?
Or do we link it to the rumor that the South schools are now on board with saving the Big XII ‘as is’ and, thus, could’ve saved nearly any North school not already signed to another conference … ?
I’m more and more hopeful that it’s the second option, but after the past week, I’m not counting any chickens before they’re hatched.

I like the idea that one fan put forward
about the ‘leftover’ joining and improving the Big East. It is exciting and would still provide for championship games as well as push the BCS around a bit.
Texas is not going to do anything that doesn’t make Texas mas dinero. If the Big 12 is ‘saved’, you can nearly bet that means that Mizzou, KU and Kstate all take it in the rump again. What was it Hall and Oates said? “I can’t go for that, no—no can do”.
