The Chiefs on Monday announced the release of six players. Since most of you aren't likely familiar with all the players, here's a quick rundown of who they are and where they came from:
RB: A fifth round draft pick in 2007, Smith had a solid rookie season. But he ended 2008 on injured reserve and started the 2009 season on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list before again ending the season on IR. I know of at least one Chiefs player who didn't think Smith would be making the team so his release isn't a huge shock.
QB: He came from the last season and served as the emergency third quarterback. He was competing with QB in OTAs. It appears for now that Palko won that battle.
TE: He was signed just last week. Now that he's been released, we know he was signed to be another body during OTAs. The Chiefs previously had two tight ends injured so they needed someone for the remaining OTAs.
DB: He was signed last month as an undrafted free agent. He came from Akron where he played just about every non-offensive/defensive line position.
OL: Another body for OTAs. He was a developmental guy.
OL Jermail Porter: He was signed last year and spent much of the season on the practice squad. He's actually a college wrestler and that's part of the reason the Chiefs picked him up.
So when you go into work tomorrow, and people are talking about the Chiefs roster moves, now you'll know.
