The Royals traded Scott Podsednik to the Dodgers on Wednesday.
On Thursday they filled his roster spot with reliever Greg Holland. Per the Kansas City Star:
Holland, 24, was 3-3 with three saves and a 3.61 ERA in 38 appearances at Class AAA Omaha. He is viewed as a power reliever who struggles occasionally with command – as evidenced by 60 strikeouts and 30 walks in 56 2/3 innings.
GM Dayton Moore also said he expects Kila Ka'aihue to be called up soon.

Scott Podsednik was an everyday player for the Royals. In recent weeks he had really come on strong, including a 15-game hitting streak, which was good for his value at the MLB trade deadline.
SB Nation's True Blue LA has taken a closer look at the Podsednik trade and thinks he'll see plenty of time down the stretch.
The acquisition of Podsednik at the very least means dramatically less playing time for Xavier Paul, who has started 13 of the last 21 games since Manny Ramirez was placed on the disabled list. Podsednik will likely become the everyday left fielder at least until Ramirez gets back, and even then given Manny's fragility, Podsednik figures to see quite a bit of playing time down the stretch for the Dodgers.
Ramirez is on the disabled list (again) so if he goes down anymore, it'll be Podsednik helping to fill the void in the outfield.

With the way the MLB trade rumors have been brewing recently, you would've thought Royals GM Dayton Moore and Dodgers GM Ned Colletti would have spoken about Scott Podsednik at some point earlier than Tuesday night, when the rumors first cropped apparently.
Apparently that's not the case.
Moore told reporters today, "Ned Colletti and I spoke for the first time last night."
After the Dodgers name first popped up in trade rumors, they were quickly put to the top of the list of teams making a push for Podsednik.
And less than 24 hours later, they got the deal done.

Well, we've been waiting for the day when the Royals would make some trades opening a spot for Kila Ka'aihue. With Scott Podsednik being traded to the Dodgers, there's now an open roster spot.
Moore says Kila call-up is something they expect to happen "maybe not tomorrow, but very shortly."
Shortly could be September as well when the rosters expand.
The Royals will have to make a decision on who will be called up by tomorrow.

Entering Wednesday night's game the Royals had tied a franchise worst with 42 runs given up over the last three games.
Scott Podsednik expressed his frustration at that after another loss, this time 6-4 to the Twins on Wednesday afternoon.
Too little, too late. We put up a charger there and showed a little bit of life late but just wasn't able to get it done again. Something has to give. We have to come out tomorrow with some intensity and start winning ball games. Like I said yesterday, it's unacceptable with the results we're getting.
Podsednik said several weeks ago that he would like to remain a Royal. Hours after these words, he was traded to the Dodgers.
It's easy to get sucked into losing. I don't want to say we're accepting it but when a couple bad things go it's almost as if you feel here we go again and that's what we're trying to change around here but that hasn't been the case as of late. Ned comes in here, and he's been a great motivator sending the right message and doing all the right things, but it's up to us to apply that on the field.

The Royals traded Scott Podsednik to the Dodgers at the perfect time. Podsednik was an ideal trade candidate for a numbers of reasons.
Number one was his contract. Podsednik has about $1.6 million remaining on his deal with an option for 2011. He will soon be in position to void that so he was essentially entering the final year of his deal.
Number two is that he was playing so well at the time his value was at a high.
Indeed, Will McDonald noted just today that Podsednik's value was looking good.
He's insanely hot at the moment. On June 20th he was hitting .282. Today, he's hitting .310. And batting average is relevant here because that's basically his entire game and the foundation of half of his reputation, along with steals. Since June 20th, he's hit .366/.397/.492.
Plus the Royals now have a AAA pitcher and an A catcher.

The Royals have announced the details of the Scott Podsednik trade:
Royals acquire catcher Lucas May and RHP Elisaul Pimentel from the Dodgers for Scott Podsednik. May was USA Baseball catcher last year.
Both are minor leaguers and assuming both stay there, the Royals will have an open roster spot.
So that's that. Scott Podsednik is a Dodger and the Royals have two new minor leaguers. Stay here for more on the MLB trade deadline.

The last we heard on a possible Scott Podsednik trade was that the Dodgers were making a strong push as the MLB trade deadline date got closer.
As it turns out, those reports were accurate.
The Dodgers acquired Podsednik from the Royals in exchange for two minor leaguers, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com.
Podsednik became of interest to the Dodgers when Manny Ramirez hit the disabled list.
Other teams reportedly interested in Podsednik included the Giants and Padres, among others.
