John Ourand is reporting that FOX has won the rights to broadcast future years of the World Cup. And the price is assumed to be astronomical in comparison to recent bids. He writes on Twitter, “ESPN paid $100M for World Cup in ‘10 and ’14. I’m told Fox’s bid could be four or five times that amount.” Soccer’s profile continues to grow, but will it be worth that much? That’s a risk FOX is apparently willing to take.
