The best in the NFL continue to perform while the rest of playoff hopefuls continue to beat each other up, leaving a very clear line between those who are truly elite teams and the rest of the league.

NFL Power Rankings: Mike Silver Has Kansas City Chiefs At No. 24

Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports has his latest NFL Power Rankings out and he has the Kansas City Chiefs in about the same place as most other media outlets at No. 24, with the team holding at four wins yet sinking faster than some team with worse overall records. Perhaps that will change with the addition of Kyle Orton at quarterback from the Denver Broncos, but it's likely that will take some time.

For now, the Chiefs are on a three game losing streak, the same one they started their season on. In the middle they went 4-0, compiling a crazy roller coaster of a season overall. It's hard to get a solid read on exactly how good or bad the Chiefs are at this point, but it's clear that others in the AFC West are climbing higher and faster than the Chiefs at this point and they're tanking at the wrong time. Tebowmania has swept Denver up in winning four of their last five. The Raiders are on solid footing and even the Chargers have enough talent to make people believe they'll eventually put it together. As for the Chiefs no one is quite sure what to think.

NFL Power Rankings: NFL's Website Lists Chiefs As 25th On Latest Power Poll

Last week, the Kansas City Chiefs were tied for 22nd on the NFL.com weekly Power Poll. Now they have fallen another three spots to 25th due to their 31 point loss on Monday Night Football last night. The differential between points scored (144) and points allowed (252) is among the worst in the league and the offense in particular has only scored more points than the Colts, Rams and Jaguars. So it's no surprise the Chiefs are listed that low.

It might not get much better for the Chiefs who face the Steelers, Bears, Jets and Packers in successive weeks starting on Sunday night against Pittsburgh. With the worst part of the schedule coming up, the Chiefs might assume last place for their own in the AFC West. There's no denying this is a frustrating year for all involved given the injuries on all sides of the field -- from defensive whiz Eric Berry (who would have been covering Rob Gronkowski last night) to Jamaal Charles and Matt Cassel. The good news is that things cannot get much worse than what they already are.

NFL Power Rankings: Kansas City Chiefs Ranks Low On WEEI Because of 'Nightmare Season'

Joe Zarbano is the latest to take a look at the NFL and give his Power Rankings over at WEEI, and it’s clear he doesn’t think highly of the Chiefs season. Then again, that’s not a surprise to anyone at this point. In fact, he describes the Kansas City Chiefs 2011 campaign as a “nightmare season” and it’s not that far off from even an optimist’s point of view. Horrific losses, mounting injuries and a diffcult schedule make this year very frustrating for Chiefs fans.

“It’s been a nightmare season for the Chiefs,” he writes. “The injury to Matt Cassel was the final straw. Tyler Palko didn’t make a strong case that he should be the starter going forward. It wouldn’t be surprising if we saw fifth-round draft pick Ricky Stanzi get some action behind center. With six games remaining, no team has a more difficult schedule ahead than the Chiefs. All six opponents have a winning percentage of .500 or better.”

NFL Power Rankings: AFC West Possibly Worst Division In NFL

The Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos are all not where they’d like to be on the latest SB Nation NFL Power Rankings. That’s because they’re likely the worst division in the entire NFL at this point. The Raiders are 6-4 and lead the division. The Chargers and Chiefs are 4-6 and sit in the basement. Everyone is close because no one is either that good or that bad. Instead, it’s a middling division that should prove an easy ouster for someone in the playoffs.

Currently the Raiders sit at No. 14 in the SB Nation Rankings with Joel Thorman commenting, “Your first place Raiders. Oakland QB Carson Palmer is playing much better and Oakland is winning.” The Broncos are next at No. 16 and the Chargers and Chiefs fell to No. 21 and 22 respectively. The way the Broncos are playing, they’re likely the best bet to keep climbing since the Raiders have looked very beatable at times. Then again, in first place, it’s hard for anyone to say something negative about them.

NFL Power Rankings: Kansas City Chiefs Fall To No. 22 After Patriots Loss

The Kansas City Chiefs lost again on Monday Night Football against the New England Patriots, just like most predicted. In fact the final score was nearly double the tremendous spread that the Pats were already given before the game by odds makers, meaning the Chiefs continue to lose big when they lose, and that’s not a good sign for their overall rank among NFL teams. That said, they’re still at No. 22 overall in SB Nation’s NFL Power Rankings.

Given that the Chiefs still have four wins, Joel Thorman places the Chiefs above other resurgent teams like the Dolphins (who Peter King has in his top 15 teams in the NFL). Thorman writes, “The Chiefs played the Patriots strong through one half on Monday night before allowing it to get ugly.”

That strong half might given enough indication that the Chiefs will end up earning a few more wins before the season is over. That said, the schedule is significantly tougher from here on out. If they can steal a couple of wins against the likes of the Bears and maybe a trap game against the Packers, the Chiefs could feasibly end at 8-8 — a solid season given what’s already taken place this year.
