The Kansas Jayhawks finally got to an easier portion in the schedule after playing some of the best teams in the country and Florida Atlantic felt the talent differential with KU rolling to a fairly easy 77-54 win last night. The Jayhawks looked sloppy and almost seemed to play down to the level of their competition, but it was still clear that KU simply had too much talent.
Thomas Robinson led the way for the Jayhawks with a tremendous showing of low-post moves and a final line of 19 points, 17 boards and 4 blocks. Tyshawn Taylor had 18 points and 3 rebounds, while Travis Releford had 11 points. Jeff Withey added 10.
The Jayhawks shot 44 percent from the field in the game but out shot Florida Atlantic from the free throw line by a wide margin going 25-33 in the game. The Jayhawks blocked 13 shots but committed 17 turnovers in the game.
Pablo Bertone led the way for Florida Atlantic with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Dennis Mavin also finished with 17 points for the Owls who fall to 3-5 on the season.
It certainly wasn't Kansas' best performance of the season, but the Jayhawks were plenty good enough to roll to a 77-54 win over Florida Atlantic.
Thomas Robinson overcame a slow start shooting the ball to finish with 19 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks for the Jayhawks who move to 4-2 on the season. Robinson finished just 4-13 from the field but was able to convert at the charity stripe going 11-13. Tyshawn Taylor chipped in 18 points while Travis Releford and Jeff Withey finished with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Kansas got off to a sluggish start against Florida Atlantic before finding themselves and heading to halftime with a 42-26 lead. This was the Jayhawks' first action since returning from Hawaii and the Maui Invitational.
Tyshawn Taylor leads all scorers with 12 points while Thomas Robinson chipped in nine points and nine rebounds in the first half. The first half has been a struggle for Robinson who finished with just 1-7 shooting but was able to go 7-8 from the free throw line. Conner Teahan came off the bench to hit three buckets from beyond the arc and finished the first half with nine points. Kansas hit 43 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half but helped itself by going 14-16 from the free throw line.
Florida Atlantic was led by Pablo Bertone's nine points and seven rebounds. Kore White and Dennis Mavin finished with five points each. The Owls hit just 35 percent of their field goals and was only 2-6 from the free throw line in the first half.
The Jayhawks are done with mega out-of-conference games and back home in Allen Fieldhouse - until they play Ohio State December 10, who thumped a Duke team that beat KU in Maui last week. Before Kansas plays yet another major game before Christmas, they'll get three warm ups, starting tonight with Florida Atlantic, followed by USF and Long Beach State.
The lack of a Top 10 opponent and a homsetand for a few games will give Kansas a chance to focus on their to-do list, namely finding quality minutes from their bench. Head coach Bill Self told the KC Star that development of depth is a concern early, as the Jayhawks starters all went over 30 minutes against Duke:
“We’re just playing our starters entirely too many minutes, especially Thomas (Robinson) and Tyshawn (Taylor),” Self said. “We’ve got to get Naadir (Tharpe) and Kevin (Young) to be able to give you some minutes off the bench.”
