The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a tough 16-13 overtime loss to the Oakland Raiders on Saturday that meant a lot more than just any loss. The defeat dropped them to a 6-9 record for the season and all the way to the bottom of the heap in the AFC West.
More than that, the loss completely eliminated any postseason hopes for the Chiefs and gave their division rivals the Raiders and the Denver Broncos one less thing to worry about as the two teams race for the NFC West crown and the accompanying No. 4 playoff berth.
The loss stings even more with the realization that the Chiefs could very well have taken that title for themselves with wins over both teams in the final two weeks of the season.
The Broncos are currently in first place in the AFC West due to the tiebreak they hold over the Raiders. Both teams sport an 8-7 record and the Raiders will need a win in conjunction with a Broncos loss to take the title, so they'll be rooting for the Chiefs this week. It remains to be seen how much joy the Chiefs can derive from playing the spoiler against at least one of their foes.
The Chiefs sit behind the 7-8 San Diego Chargers in the West.
