Former Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert Gets First NFL Action In Jaguars Loss To Jets

Stay connected for news and updates

It likely wasn’t the ideal situation that Blaine Gabbert would have wanted, but there’s no denying that the former Mizzou Tiger looked rather sharp in mop-up duty for the Jacksonville Jaguars during their lopsided 32-3 loss to the New York Jets. Appearing in his first NFL regular season game, Gabbert finished 5 for 6 with 52 yards and a 102.8 rating. The only question now is whether or not Gabbert will become the official starter for the team.

Luke McCown, the incumbent starter, certainly didn’t help his case to keep his job today. He finished 6 for 19 for 59 yards. Even worse, he threw 4 interceptions and had zero touchdowns. The performance immediately draws attention back to the unexpected release of David Garrard right before the season — a move that still confounds since Gabbert wasn’t the immediate replacement.

The Jags are now 1-1 on the season after defeating the Titans in week one.
