East-West Shrine Game: Dominique Hamilton Should 'Keep It Simple' To Make NFL Impact

The National Football Post's Wes Bunting is on the scene at the East-West Shrine Game and he'll be analyzing players all week in must-read columns for the diehard NFL Draft fans out there. Dominique Hamilton is a name that comes up again and again as a defensive tackle filled with potential. As such, he's one of the primary prospects earning write-ups this week and Bunting has a mixed review thus far on the Missouri Tiger.

"When Missouri DT Dominique Hamilton doesn’t try to get cute off the snap he can be an effective bull rusher," writes Bunting. "However, too often he tries to work the swim and gets upright, making himself an easy target to be blocked. Now, when he does keep it simple he’s long armed, strong kid who can fight through contact and get up field. Therefore, he looks more like an intriguing 5-technique prospect only to me at the next level who has the ability to be a tough move setting the edge."

Hamilton still has more practice time and, of course, the game to change minds about him. But if he has the raw moves, some of the "cute" practices can be changed with proper coaching.

NFL Draft 2012: Dominique Hamilton Needs To Showcase Pass Rush At East-West Shrine Game

As the scouting reports come in from the East-West Shrine game practices, various local players are getting some good information on where they might stand with NFL teams. Tom Melton is weighing in on the latest West roster practice and he says Dominique Hamilton of Missouri is a player who should garner interest, but who also might have some key limitations.

“Hamilton has the size and strength to be a good run stuffer in the NFL,” writes Melton, " but he doesn’t offer much as a pass rusher which limits his value. He also doesn’t look like a guy who can take on double teams and stuff the run in a 3-4 defense. But if he is going to play the nose tackle position in a 4-3 teams will want more from him as a pass rusher. Will be interesting to see what he shows the rest of the week."

Hamilton has earned stronger reviews from other scouts, so Hamilton will likely still go on the second day of the draft where rounds 2 and 3 take place. A strong showing here could cement that standing.

NFL Draft 2012: Missouri's Dominique Hamilton Expected To 'Dominate And Emerge' At East-West Shrine Game

Now is the time of year for unheralded players to begin to emerge and show their true value among NFL prospects as players declare for the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft and show off for scouts in the process. Missouri's defensive tackle Dominique Hamilton is one such prospect and Eric Galko at Optimum Scouting says that this should be a special week for the Tigers defensive star.

Hamilton is playing this week in the East-West Shrine game and it's clear that he's among the best defensive players checking in for the game. Scouts will be monitoring him closely and he has a chance to set himself up well for the draft.

"Among the draft's best nose tackle prospects, Hamilton didn't get a ton of love this year playing on a mediocre Missouri team," writes Eric Galko. "Still, he holds the point of attack well, can engage and hold his position in the middle, and has shown separation and rushing ability in the passing game. I fully expect Hamilton to dominate this game and emerge as a legit Day 2, top three round selection."
