Kansas City Marathon 2012: Weather forecast, road closures and more

Runners and spectators can expect great weather

The 2012 Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon will start at 7:05 a.m. local time Saturday, taking participants on a hilly route through the city. The race also features a half marathon option, and a 5k route as well.

Runners will be treated to beautiful weather. The forecast around 7 a.m. calls for a temperature of about 40 degrees, with temperatures rising to a high around 65 in the afternoon. The forecast is for clear, sunny skies. Winds are forecasted to be minimal.

For spectators, the race will start and finish at 22nd & Grand, near the Crown Center.

For commuters, closures are expected to impact the following streets: Grand, Main, Westport Road, Roanoke Parkway, 47th Street, Ward Parkway, 75th Street, Wornall Road, Brookside Boulevard, Volker Boulevard, Gillham Road and The Paseo. According to the city, drivers seeking north-to-south crosstown routes to the West of the marathon are advised to utilize Broadway Boulevard, Southwest Trafficway, or Interstate 35. For crosstown north-to-south traffic East of the race, Bruce R. Watkins Drive (U.S. Highway 71) is recommended.
