Shooting guard Kevin Martin is excited to join the Oklahoma City Thunder, and should establish himself as a solid contributor.
Although the trade that sent James Harden to the Houston Rockets shocked many Thunder fans, the two players Oklahoma City is receiving are ready to join the team. Newly acquired shooting guard Kevin Martin is excited to be joining the Thunder, telling reporters:
"I'm coming to an organization and a team that is building a great tradition with a great supporting cast and community. I just think they have the right makings for any player to want to come play for them."
Martin and Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks are familiar with each other; Martin played in Sacramento while Scott Brooks was an assistant for the Kings. Brooks also spoke positively about the trade, stating:
"I thought they both came in with great energy and enthusiasm and they're excited to be here."
Martin was the leading scorer for the Houston Rockets last season, averaging 17.1 points per game. The guard is also an efficent scorer; along with Dwight Howard, Martin is one of two current NBA players to average 18 points per game while taking less than 13 shots per game. With the Thunder's already impressive offensive firepower, scoring efficiently off the bench will be important for Martin to establish himself as a reliable contributor.
Despite the shakeup to the roster, the Thunder appear to be moving forward with their team. Bringing in players who understand their role and are excited to contribute should help Oklahoma City in the coming season.
