Chiefs hope to impress given primetime TV opportunity

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

The Kansas City Chiefs will look to impress a national audience on Thursday Night Football this week against division rival San Diego Chargers.

The Kansas City Chiefs aren't exactly regularly featured on national broadcast games in the NFL. Which is why when they get their opportunities, the Chiefs want to make them count.

The two upcoming games mark the only chances this season for Kansas City to showcase their team to a national audience, beginning this Thursday night against the San Diego Chargers. While a win over their division foe is the main goal, the Chiefs also want to put their best out, according to Eric Winston in Tuesday's press conference:

"I think any time you play in front of your peers you want to play well. I think that's always in the back of peoples' minds when you play Monday nights, Thursday nights, things like that. Even 4 o'clock games, a lot more people are usually watching those than your regular noon games. So it's important to play well, it's always important to play well, but when you're special enough to get some of these night games you want to put on a show. And I think that's something we've got to go do."

So far this season, Kansas City has struggled, sitting in the basement of the AFC West with a 1-6 record. After a thrilling, 27-24 overtime win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 3, the Chiefs have dropped four straight.

Following this week's matchup with San Diego, Kansas City will have an unusually long break of 11 days before facing the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football.
