The Oklahoma Sooners had little trouble in defeating the Texas Tech Red Raiders 41-20 on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas, and while the score may indicate an offensive explosion, it was actually the Oklahoma defense that keyed the victory.
The Oklahoma Sooners had no issues, as they easily defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 41-20. While Oklahoma scored, their defense played a key role in getting the victory, intercepting Red Raiders quarterback Seth Doege three times.
Oklahoma converted those three interceptions into 14 points, with one by Javon Harris going back 46 yards for a touchdown. The defense also held Texas Tech's passing offense to just 271 yards, which is about 90 yards below their normal passing output per game.
On offense, it was quarterback Landry Jones who led the way, completing 25-of-40 passes for 259 yards, plus he threw a pair of touchdowns to Kenny Stills and Justin Brown. All day the Sooners had good field position, which is why their offensive stats may not look so impressive despite putting up 41 points.
Box Score Hero: Quarterback Landry Jones had the best day, throwing for 259 yards to go along with a pair of touchdowns.
Rankings Ramifications: Oklahoma could move up a few spots since Texas Tech was undefeated heading into this game, but how much a jump for Oklahoma depends on how teams ranked above them fare on Saturday.
But Did They Cover? Oklahoma easily covered the 5 points.
Next Week's Schedule: Oklahoma takes on Texas on Oct. 13, and Texas Tech hosts West Virginia Oct. 13.
