First he was named mid-season MVP by ESPN. Then he was named All-Star Game MVP last night. The only thing left is for Kevin Durant to win the real MVP award at the end of the 2011-12 NBA season. The Oklahoma City Thunder star has simply been that dominant in any contest he enters. Heck, he even placed among the top finalists in the three-point competition that he subbed in for Joe Johnson on Saturday.
Durant scored 36 points and grabbed 7 rebounds last night to help the Western Conference to a 152-149 victory over the Eastern Conference.
"It's just exciting to be named (an) All-Star, but to step it up another level and become MVP, it's only something as a kid you dream about," Durant said. "Coming from where I come from, I didn't think I would be here. Everything is just a blessing to me."
"This is his first time of probably many," Brooks said of the MVP award. "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to coach him. The guy, he does a lot of things well. ... He just comes in and does his work."

Kevin Durant made the All-Star game look like a typical night for himself as he scored 36 points on 14-of-25 shooting on the night. For his effort Durant was named the MVP in Sunday night's game as the West held off a second half rally by the Eastern Conference team to win 152-149.

Even on the Western Conference All-Star team Kevin Durant finds a way to score and he is leading all players with 21 first-half points in the 2012 NBA All-Star game, and would be fitting that his teammate Russell Westbrook would be the second leading scorer with 17 points. Not there is much defense in the NBA All-Star game, but Durant has made eight-of-13 shots while Westbrook has made eight-of-11.
Even though this is an exhibition, Durant and Westbrook have outscored other multi-year All-Stars Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Dirk Nowitzki. Looks like Durant or possibly even Westbrook could be on their way to earning the MVP award.
A reason to stay tuned to the second half in this game is to see wacky stuff like this from Westbrook:
Via SB Nation.
Even though the West has a commanding 19 point lead, there is no such thing as a safe lead in a NBA All-Star game.

The West will be looking for its second consecutive win over the East after taking the win last year 148-143. Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant is participating in the three-point contest and he had a good showing in the first round and scored 20 points, which was second place to the 2011 defending champion James Jones who put up an impressive 22 points. Minnesota Timberwolves Kevin Love and the Miami Heat's Mario Chalmers both tied for third and Love was able to edge out Chalmers in the 24 second tie-breaker round.
In the final round defending champion Jones had a terrible 10 points while Love and Durant tied and went to a tie-breaker round. Love made 16 points and Durant scored 14 points in the extra frame and missed the money ball in his attempt to tie Love. This was Durant's second lost in the three-point contest.

The second event of the night at the NBA All-Star weekend is the skills challenge which is a timed course where players must make two chest passes, hit a three-pointer, make a bounce pass and then dribble down to the other end of the court and finish with a layup.
The field will consist of the Boston Celtics Rajon Rondo, San Antonio Spurs Tony Parker, Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook, Cleveland Cavaliers Kyrie Irving, Washington Wizards John Wall and New Jersey Nets Deron Williams.
The Thunders Westbrook struggled in this first attempt and did not make it to the second round as his time was 33.8 seconds which was the fourth fastest time.
The winner of the 2012 event was the Spurs Parker who defeated Deron Williams and Rajon Rondo.

Kevin Durant has had an exciting and busy NBA All Star Weekend. First he coached the Celebrity Game last night. Tonight he tries to win the three-point contest. Tomorrow comes the actual NBA All-Star Game. All in all, it’s clear the NBA wants to showcase one of its best overall players as much as possible.
You can catch Durant tonight as he takes on five others in the Three-Point Contest that’s part of a four event series during the Saturday swing of the schedule. The Slam Dunk contest is the most popular aspect and brings up the final leg of the quartet of events that also includes a Shooting Stars and Skills Challenge in the first two legs.

Joe Johnson was supposed to be among the handful of players trying to unseat James Jones of the Miami Heat as the reigning three-point champion of the NBA All-Star Weekend, but he had to cancel due to injury. Now Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder and perhaps the best player in the NBA this season is going to step into his place. The move immediately brings a higher level of attention to an event that lacked any other star power beyond Kevin Love.
The official list includes:
Ryan Anderson, Orlando Magic
Kevin Love, Minnesota Timberwolves
James Jones, Miami Heat
Mario Chalmers, Miami Heat
Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder
Anthony Morrow, New Jersey Nets
The Three-Point Contest is the third event of four that also includes the Slam Dunk Championship. Everything kicks off at 7:30pm CT, and Durant will likely start around 8:30pm.

The Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant may not suit up to show his stuff during the NBA All-Star Weekend until Saturday, but that doesn't mean he won't be on the court. The Thunder's, and one of the league's, leading scorer will be coaching the west team in tonight's Sprint NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.
Durant will be coaching against the Magic's Dwight Howard with celebrities like Ne-Yo, Common, Kevin Hart and JB Smooth, as well as former players Mitch Richmond, Penny Hardaway and Nick Anderson. Durant's team will try to bounce back from a Celebrity Game loss last year in which Justin Bieber shined for the East team. WNBA 2011 MVP Tamika Catchings and ESPN analyst Doug Gottlieb will be playing as well.
The Sprint NBA All-Star Celebrity Game begins at 7 p.m. (ET) and will be aired nationally on ESPN.
