The Goody's Fast Relief 500 went into overtime racing when a caution flag was raised when David Reutimann's Chevrolet stalled on the straight away on the 497th lap. Due to the stalled car there was a restart, and prior to the restart Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson were dominating the race.
On the restart it was Johnson and Gordon in the lead and just ahead of Clint Bowyer and Dale Earnhardt Jr., but Bowyer decided to make a move to go under Gordon and Johnson. That did not go well as to try to get the lead, but the three cars connected which caused Johnson and Bowyer to run into the wall on turn two and Gordon and Earnhardt's machines were damaged.
Ryan Newman was able to take advantage of the accident by avoiding the damage and held off A.J. Allmendinger to win his very first race at Martinsville.
Carl Edwards just missed out of finishing in the top-10 by coming in 11th place.

Kansas native Clint Bowyer will start fourth in Sunday's Goody's Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Kasey Kahne won the pole for the race, his second pole position of the season and 18th since the start of the 2006 season – a series high among all drivers.
Bowyer's a big fan of the track, and he understands that winning the track position battle will be key on finishing well in the race.
“Martinsville is a great racetrack! I love that place as a driver and as a fan. It’s short track racing the way it should be. Track position is king at Martinsville. You talk about a place where qualifying is a big deal – Martinsville is it. You want to make sure you turn in a good lap on Saturday, because it’s hard to gain ground on race day!
The half-mile track in Virginia starts up at 1:00 pm Eastern, here are the starting lineups for the race.

The Goody's Fast Relief 500 is taking place at Martinsville Speedway which is one of the oldest NASCAR tracks. Martinsville opened on July 4, 1947 and the first NASCAR race took place two years later.
Two drivers that have historically raced well at Martinsville is Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson. The two combined to win all nine races from 2006-2010 with Johnson winning five and Hamlin winning four; however that winning streak ended last year.
In qualifying Hamliln finished third while Johnson came in at 22nd; the top two where Kasey Kahne and Kevin Harvick. So if Johnson is going to challenge in this race they will need to have an exceptional race. Carl Edwards qualified at No. 28 this weekend.
Date/start time: Sunday April 1, 12:30 p.m. ET
Location: Martinsville Speedway, Martinsville, Va.
TV: FOX
Weather: Mostly sunny with temperatures around 70, low threat of rain.

Carl Edwards has not had a bad NASCAR season early on in the 2012 Sprint Cup racing schedule, but it's not the type of start either he or his Roush-Fenway Ford team were hoping for.
