The Kansas City Royals will get some relief from their overworked bullpen with Saturday's game being rained out against the Minnesota Twins. Even with the extra rest the Royals are looking for a long reliever.
The Royals decided to call up right-hander Nate Adcock from AAA Omaha to fill that void:
"We need a long man," manager Ned Yost said, "and he was available. He's been throwing well. His day (to pitch) was (Friday), but we backed him off because we had a thought that we might need him."
By calling up Adcock the Royals had to make a move so they optioned left-hander Everett Teaford to Omaha. Adcock did spend last season on the Royals major league roster before being sent to Omaha for the second half of the season.
Teaford was sent down since he made a spot start on Friday night where he pitched only four innings and would be unavailable over the next few days, and by being out for a few games the already thing Royals bullpen was even more thin.
