On Wednesday night, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami Heat played what might become a preview for the upcoming NBA Finals with the final results giving the Heat a 98-93 victory over the Thunder. But what it also gave the NBA was a play to look at when it came to the flagrant foul Russell Westbrook placed on LeBron James in the second quarter.
Checking out the video below, the refs called it a Flagrant 1, which was the lesser of the two. A Flagrant 2 results in immediate ejection from the game. That's likely to help Westbrook's cause if the NBA wants to look closer into the foul. It is the highest profile player in the NBA who is involved, so it's not surprising that the foul is still being discussed. Still, Alex Groberman believes Westbrook likely didn't intend anything harmful.
James is much bigger and stronger than he is, and it's very possible that this was the only way that Westbrook felt like he could stop what was pretty much an unstoppable force. There really didn't seem to be much malicious intent there, it was just one of those fouls that ends up looking much worse than anyone involved really meant for it to be.
Check the evidence for yourself below:

In a potential NBA Finals matchup, the Miami Heat exacted some revenge and took down the Oklahoma City Thunder 98-93 on Wednesday night. It was just ten days ago that the Thunder clobbered the Heat in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City was led by a huge night from Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, who combined for 58 points. Problem was, the rest of the Thunder starters managed just eight more.
The Thunder had a chance to tie the game late in the game, but Durant was errant on a long-distance three point attempt.
LeBron James sparked the win for Miami, finishing with 34 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. He was happy to have Dwyane Wade back in the lineup, who missed Tuesday night's game versus Philadelphia with a knee injury.
The loss is Oklahoma City's second is as many games, marking just their second losing streak of the season. They remain atop the Western Conference standings at 40-14, however, one game ahead of the San Antonio Spurs.

After waxing the Heat at home 10 days ago, the Thunder have a chance to flex their collective muscle once again on Wednesday night in Miami, where they trail the Heat 50-49 at halftime.
Kevin Durant led the way for the Thunder, finishing with 15 points on 6-10 shooting. As a team, Oklahoma City shot 44.4 percent overall and 3-10 from beyond the arc.
Miami welcomed Dwyane Wade back to the lineup, and he made his presence felt with 12 opening half points to go along with two rebounds.
LeBron James leads all Heat scorers with 23 points, but the Thunder took control early by seizing the edge on the glass. They out-boarded Miami 21-18.
