NASCAR At Pocono: Joey Logano Passes Mark Martin Late For The Win

Joey Logano pulled off a late bump and run pass of Mark Martin and held on for the victory at Pocono. The victory was Logano's first since a rain shortened event in 2009 at New Hampshire and will certainly help his standing with Gibbs Racing where he was thought to be in danger.

Martin finished second and was followed by Tony Stewart, Jimmy Johnson and Denny Hamlin. Johnson overcame a speeding penalty early that had him drop a lap down to finish fourth. Matt Kenseth finishes seventh and takes over the points lead from Greg Biffle.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. grabs another top 10 with an eighth place finish and Carl Edwards is just outside the top 10 at No. 11.

NASCAR At Pocono 2012: Three Points Worth Noting

The Pocono 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race is finally underway, and while change has been the constant storyline on Sunday's race, drivers will be racing fast and adjusting to the new setup on the racetrack.

SB Nation NASCAR contributor Jordan Bianchi makes three compelling points that will be worth watching during the race.

  • In six prior starts on the 2.5-mile track, pole-sitter Joey Logano has never finished inside the top 10 with his best result being an 11th-place finish in this race one year ago.

  • Befitting because it is referred to as the "Tricky Triangle," since the track first opened its doors in 1974 only two drivers have been able to score their maiden Sprint Cup victory at Pocono. The first was Jeremy Mayfield in 1998, with the second being Denny Hamlin, who swept both races here in his rookie campaign of 2006.

  • No driver in today's field has as many top fives (19) and top 10s (33) than Mark Martin, but surprisingly, the veteran driver has never won a race in 50 Pocono starts. His best finish is second, which he has done on six separate occasions.

After 60 laps, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is the leader of the race. Carl Edwards sits in the 20th position.
