With the 283rd overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, the Kansas City Royals selected junior college pitcher Daniel Stumpf of San Jancinto Junior College in Texas.

Stumpf, a left-hander, was ranked the 210th overall prospect coming into the draft by Baseball America.

The 6'2" 198 lb left-hander throws a low 90's fastball and is noted for his command and ability to throw strikes. Stumpf, who started as a student at Stephen F. Austin, is commited to Lubbock Christian next season. However, Stumpf is expected to sign with the Royals.

He has grown quite a bit since high school, when Stumpf was listed as 5'11" and 155 lbs as a high school senior.

After reaching for their previous three picks, it appears the Royals are now back on track in picking a guy who Baseball America actually had ranked higher than his draft position.

Look for Kansas City to likely go with another pitcher in the 10th round.
