Ryan Lochte Overshadows Michael Phelps For Team USA Early In London Olympics

Michael Phelps is already getting a bit lost amid the conversation about other emerging athletes from the United States, most notably Ryan Lochte who bested Phelps for the gold medal in the 400m IM -- an event in which Phelps did not even place in the top three. Now Lochte is on a roll and providing the United States with hopes of further glory as he became one of the top two qualifiers for the men's 200m freestyle.

Interestingly enough, Lochte finished alongside Sun Yang of China but says this isn't even an event that's up his alley.

"I'll try to do my best, but the 200 freestyle is not my best event," he said. "It's more difficult for me compared to the 400 meters or the 1,500 meters."

Lochte was soaking in the glory of his gold medal win in the 400m IM well into the night in London, so he didn't think he was prepared properly for the qualifying round. It turns out he'll be just fine.

"I didn't get to bed until like 2 a.m. so I'm a little tired, but it was a prelims swim, so I'm not too worried about it," said Lochte.

With so much natural talent on the side of the U.S., both with Lochte who is shining and Phelps who is searching, the Americans are bound to come home with multiple medals from London in swimming.
