Sporting Kansas City took home the 1-0 win over last place Toronto FC over the weekend, keeping themselves up at the top of the Eastern Conference in MLS and keeping them at least minority in the discussion for the Supporter's Shield.
Unsurprisingly, the hero was the ever present Kei Kamara, who stuck in his team leading ninth goal of the season with a well placed low shot, matching his goal total from last season with the strike:
Of course, it wouldn't be a Sporting KC game without some heroics from All-Star keeper Jimmy Neilsen, and he provided those heroics late in the game with a wonderful stop to keep the win alive:

Sporting KC only has nine games remaining in the regular season for 2012, and so far they are the class of Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference. Sporting KC holds a five-point lead over the New York Red Bulls, but the Red Bulls have a game in hand having only played 24 games to Sporting KC's 25.
In the overall MLS standings, Sporting KC is only a point behind the San Jose Earthquakes for the best overall record in the league. A second-place overall finish would guarantee an appearance in the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League, while a first-place finish guarantees that as well as a place in next season's MLS Supporter's Shield contest against the winner of the playoffs.
Kansas City has a big game this week at home against the New York Red Bulls. A victory would all but lock up the regular season Eastern Conference crown.

Sporting Kansas City defeated Toronto FC 1-0 on Saturday, extending the team's lead in the MLS Eastern Conference to five points. Kei Kamara's ninth goal of the season provided the margin of victory.
A scoreless first half nevertheless provided both teams with plenty of chances. None was better than that created by Graham Zusi, when his pass from the right wing found Teal Bunbury behind the Toronto defense, but goalkeeper Milos Kocic made the save on Bunbury's shot. Kocic saved a second Bunbury shot, produced on another breakaway, late in the half.
Both sides continued to generate chances in the second frame, with the lone goal finally coming in the 83rd minute. Zusi set up for a free kick, but instead passed the ball to the nearby Kamara, who fired a shot around the wall and into goal. For his part, Zusi picked up his eleventh assist of the season.
The win kept Sporting Kansas City undefeated in August and was the club's seventh away win of the campaign. Sporting KC returns to action on August 26, at home against New York Red Bulls.

Oriol Rosell, Sporting KC's newest midfielder, made his debut against DC United last weekend. The Spaniard is familiar with Sporting KC's 4-3-3 formation and thinks the similarity in style will help him adjust to Stateside play:
"The style of play that they put in training is basically the same as it is in Barcelona," Rosell said of Sporting KC. "A lot of teams, more and more here in America, are putting in that style of play. I’m happy, because it didn’t take me that long to adjust and I get to enjoy the game better."
Rosell was signed Aug. 2 after spending six years with FC Barcelona, and is now the only Spaniard currently playing in Major League Soccer. Rosell is a graduate of Barcelona's La Masia youth academy, and played last year in the Spanish second division.
