Web.com Tour In KC: Texan Shawn Steffani Surges To Win In Midwest Classic

As so often happens in a professional golf tournament, somebody gets hot on the final day and surges to the top of the leader board to steal the victory. That was the scenario on Sunday at the Web.com Tour Midwest Classic as Shawn Steffani shot the low score of the day at seven-under-par 64 to win the tournament by two strokes over Luke List and Russell Henley.

Steffani, from Houston, Texas, caught fire on the back nine of the final round at Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, scoring five of his seven birdies on the day on his way to a four-round score of 17-under 267. Seffani started the day on Sunday at the Midwest Classic tied for 13th place.

It was Seffani's first career win on the Web.com Tour. He is currently third on the money list on the Web.com Tour, which is significant because the top 25 money winners earn their PGA Tour card for the 2013 season.

The first three rounds of the tournament featured a different leader every day, and Steffani's final-day charge made if four in four days. The leader after three rounds, Matt Weibring, another Texan whose father, D.A., also is a professional golfer, had six birdies on Sunday, but also had four bogeys on the back nine to go with a double-bogey six on the par-four opening hole.

Weibring ended up with en even-par 71in the final round, which gave him a total score of 14-under for the tournament and a tie for fourth place.
