Jake Odorizzi Named PCL Pitcher Of The Week

Stay connected for news and updates

After allowing just one run in the 14 innings he pitched last week, RHP Jake Odorizzi has been named the Pacific Coast League's Pitcher of the Week for August 13-19.

The 22-year-old, who was the Kansas City Royals' fourth best prospect prior this season according to Baseball America, has had a spectacular minor league campaign this season. In 17 Triple-A appearances, the former Zack Greinke trade chip has compiled a 10-2 record with a 2.80 ERA, striking out 7.2 batters per nine innings.

Despite the gaudy numbers, the Royals have somehow managed to resist the temptation of calling Odorizzi up this season. It shouldn't be too long before we see Odorizzi in the bigs though as Kansas City owns the fourth worst starting pitcher ERA in baseball (5.06). At this point, a September major league trial seems to be quite likely.
