Stay connected for news and updates

Padraig Harrington finished his first round strong and sits alone atop The Barclays leaderboard.

Harrington’s 7-under 64 began inauspiciously when he bogeyed the third hole, but he rebounded with birdies on holes four and seven. Harrington then caught fire on the back nine, stringing four birdies together on holes 11, 12, 13 and 14, then back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 before wrapping up with a par on the 18th.

Nick Watney finished a stroke behind, and Gary Christian and Brian Harman are also currently one back of Harrington. Pat Perez and Sergio Garcia, at 5-under-par, each ended their rounds two back, while K.J. Choi and Dustin Johnson sit at 4-under.

Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald, Zach Johnson and others are at 3-under, and 2012 PGA Championship winner Rory McIlroy is tied with Steve Stricker and and Lee Westwood at 2-under-par.

Missouri native Jeff Maggert tees off later this afternoon.
