U.S. Open Tennis 2012 Results: Klijsters Loses Final Match, Murray Advances

Stay connected for news and updates

The third day of the U.S. Open is in the books, and Kim Clijsters' career is likely over. She lost to Laura Robson, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5), in the second round. The three-time U.S. Open winner said that it was the perfect place to retire, though she would have preferred to advance to face Li Na rather than the 18-year-old Robson.

Elsewhere on the women's bracket, No. 3 seed Maria Sharapova took less than an hour to defeat Spain's Lourdes Dominguez Lino, 6-0, 6-1, and No. 1 seed Victoria Azarenka got an easy 6-2, 6-2 win over Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens.

On the men's side, Olympic gold medal winner Andy Murray won his second-round match against Croatian Ivan Dodig, 6-2, 6-1, 6-3. American John Isner, the No. 9 seed, beat Xavier Malisse, 6-3, 7-6 (5), 5-7 and 7-6 (9), in his first match of the tournament.
