2012 Olympics Medal Count: USA Leads Overall, China Leads Gold

Thanks to another stellar day in track and field, the United States once again finds itself atop the medal count at the 2012 Olympics.

American Olympians lead the way with 81 overall medals. The United States is second in gold medals with 34, and have 22 silver and 25 bronze medals as well.

The Chinese relinquished the overall medal count to the Americans, but they still lead in gold medals. Chinese Olympians have captured 36 gold medals to go along with 22 silver and 19 bronze medals.

Russia is in third place, distantly, with 52 overall medals. Of Russia's 52 medals, only 11 are gold. The Russians also have 19 silver and 22 bronze, respectively.

Host nation Great Britain and Germany round out the top five. The British have captured 22 gold medals and 48 overall, with the Germans have captured seven gold medals, and 32 overall.
