Nicholls State Vs. Tulsa 2012: Golden Hurricane Win Big, 66-16

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane took care of business Saturday evening against the Nicholls State Colonels, dominating the Colonels by a score of 66-16 at Chapman Stadium.

The Colonels were never a threat to the Golden Hurricane, as Tulsa was able to bury the Colonels 28-6 after the first quarter and further extended their lead 42-9 before the start of the second half. Tulsa was able to rattle off six touchdowns in the first half and three more in the second half.

The game quickly got away from the Colonels, allowing Tulsa to use their reserves at key positions to avoid potential injuries to their starters. Starting quarterback Cody Green threw for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns before taking a seat to allow Kalen Henderson to close out the game.

While the quarterback play was strong, it was Tulsa's running game that allowed the Golden Hurricane to run through Nicholls State. As a team, Tulsa rushed for 333 yards on 45 carries for seven touchdowns. Running back Ja'Terian Douglas took two of his five carries for touchdowns and accumulated 163 yards in those five carries.

Now improved to 2-1 on the season, Tulsa will host the Fresno State Bulldogs next Saturday, Sept. 22.

Tulsa Vs. Nicholls State Halftime Score: Golden Hurricane Up 42-9

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane are not being challenged at all by Nicholls State as they lead 42-9 at the half. Tulsa is being led by running back Ja'Terian Douglas, who has 163 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just five touches, that includes a 73-yard touchdown run.

Quarterback Cody Green is already down for the night for Tulsa, and in just over a quarter of play he went 10-of-15 for 130 yards and two touchdowns. His backup Kalen Henderson is already 4-of-8 for 33 yards.

The defense for Tulsa has held Nicholls State to just nine points, but the one touchdown they did give up was a 63-yard run by LaQuintin Caston. Outside of that play Tulsa's defense has been stout and has only allowed 200 total yards.

The backups have already started to enter the game for Tulsa, and expect that to continue through the rest of the game.
