The Kansas City Chiefs Have No Expectations

The Kansas City Chiefs don't deserve such a loyal fan base with their play over the last few weeks.

Everything in life starts with a mindset and subsequently an attitude.

If you want a job, apply yourself. If you desire to become a better person, work at it. It's usually not the large things that need to be changed first, but the small finite issues. Ultimately, the devil is in the details.

The Kansas City Chiefs aren't 0-2 because they don't have talent. They're 0-2 because they're a gutless organization.

The problem in Kansas City has been the same since Marty Schottenheimer skipped town following the 1998 season; it's acceptable to lose.

Clark Hunt owns the team but treats it as nothing more than a curiosity. Since his father Lamar passed away, this team has been changing constantly both in the front office and on the field. Everyone who pays attention knows that continuity wins. Just look at the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The only thing that never seems to change is the amount of playoff wins.

It's pathetic and embarrassing to watch this team play football. At times, it's unbearable. I've never witnessed a team with more potential that literally could care less about the final score. Even worse, nobody upstairs seems remotely bothered by it.

Do you think the New England Patriots or Green Bay Packers would accept this kind of play? Absolutely not. Half of this team would already be on the next flight out.

Scott Pioli wasn't brought to Arrowhead four years ago to put together a potentially great roster. He was acquired to win, and to this point he's failed. In his first three seasons, this team has one playoff appearance; a 30-7 beating at the hands of another great franchise, the Baltimore Ravens.

Pioli decided last year to fire Todd Haley because reportedly the two couldn't co-exist. Well that begs the question, why was Haley hired in the first place?

Haley wasn't perfect, but we all know this wouldn't fly under his watch. Last year the team was blown out in similar fashion in its first two games before righting the ship despite injuries to three stars. Even totally healthy, does anyone really think that's happening this year?

All of this speaks to the bigger point: the Chiefs aren't invested enough in excellence. Sure, they would like to grab a victory occasionally and boy; wouldn't a Super Bowl be sweet? Unfortunately, they have no clue how to attain a championship because it doesn't matter enough to them.

The problem is the lack of expectations that not only inhabit One Arrowhead Drive, but the paying customers that enter it eight times a year and nine if we're lucky.

People expect garbage football, constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop while Hunt sits in his office and counts up his millions saved thanks to letting another quality player walk.

Nobody seems to get upset when this team underperforms including the fans.

Why? Well, because they are the Chiefs after all.
