Oklahoma State Vs. Savannah State: Cowboys Blow Out Tigers, 84-0, To Open 2012 Season

The Oklahoma State Cowboys ran roughshod over the Savannah State Tigers on Saturday, rushing for nine touchdowns and reaching the end zone 12 times in an 84-0 destruction that went a long way towards proving the Cowboys don't need Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon to put points on the board.

Joseph Randle had six carries and rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Desmond Roland had nine carries and ran for 104 yards and three touchdowns. Corey Bennett had 12 carries and rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown. Jeremy Smith had just five carries and 37 yards, but scored three touchdowns. These are the kind of numbers the Cowboys put up.

Starter Wes Lunt went 11-11 for 129 yards before he was pulled along with the other first-teamers. Backup J.W. Walsh did just fine passing the ball, but was downright silent compared to the thunder the running game provided. He threw for 149 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, going 13-21 in the process. Here's what Oklahoma State blog Cowboys Ride For Free had to say about the victory:

Savannah State chose poorly when picking their first ever FBS opponent. Not enough money to endure that beating. About the only thing they can claim is that they allowed one less TD in the first half than Kansas did last year (56). The one qualification...most of our starters played most of that first half. The Tigers saw our reserves BEFORE the end of the first quarter.

Records were broken, but they should include an asterisk. FCS opponents shouldn't count...unless your Michigan (App St)...or Pittsburgh (Youngstown St).
