The Chiefs hired Andy Reid to be their latest head coach.

The Kansas City Chiefs landed their new head coach on Friday when the team made it official that Andy Reid would be leading the team. Reid was a wanted man after he was fired from the Philadelphia Eagles, he was linked to the Arizona Cardinals and San Diego Chargers vacancies.

Reid becomes the Chiefs 13th head coach in the teams franchise, and he replaces Romeo Crennel who was the teams head coach for the final three games of 2011 and of all of 2012.

The Reid hiring was praised by many, including Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson:

"He's a very proven coach in the league," Johnson said. "I've been watching him over the years. He's at the top of the charts when you talk about coaches getting the job done. So I think it's a great opportunity for us at this time. We're getting a veteran coach who has been there and done that and knows how to get things done."

The Chiefs have not had this successful of a coach like Reid since Marty Schottenheimer was leading the Chiefs to multiple playoff appearances during the 1990s.

There will also be hiring a new general manager since Scott Pioli was let go on Friday, and there are reports that Reid will be able to bring in his own general manager; plus assistant coaches. The two names that pop up for being the new general manager are John Dorsey who is the Green Bay Packers' director of college scouting, and recently fired Cleveland Browns general manager Tom Heckert. Heckert who worked with Reid for a numbers of years in Philadelphia.

Financial terms of Reid's contract have not been released.

The Chiefs have many needs to improve their team, and the duo at CBSSports.com feel that it will be a quarterback or offensive lineman.

The Kansas City Chiefs are on the clock for the 2013 NFL Draft, and even though the draft is still a few months away from officially making their pick there are plenty of mock drafts to go around.

Talk has been that the Chiefs will be taking a quarterback with their top pick, and plenty of sites are having Kansas City take West Virginia's Geno Smith to eventually replace Matt Cassel.

Dane Brugler of CBSSports.com goes in line with others by selecting Smith with the top overall pick:

Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia: The Chiefs offense, which averages a paltry 13.2 points per game, has really struggled through the air with 20 interceptions and just eight passing touchdowns. Geno Smith isn't a can't-miss franchise quarterback like Andrew Luck a year ago, but he offers a talented skill-set that could intrigue the Chiefs to make him the top pick.

Even thought Smith is not the top rated player in the draft, he does fill a need that the Chiefs desperately need. Smith is an athletic quarterback that would bring a new dynamic to the Chiefs offense which has Cassel, who is more of a traditional pocket passer.

Brugler's colleague at CBSSports.com, Rob Rang, has the Chiefs going with an offensive lineman with their first pick:

Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M: The national perception is that Kansas City fans will be irate if the Chiefs don't draft a quarterback with this pick. That may not be giving an educated and passionate fan base enough credit for recognizing this year's poor crop at the position. Clearly the quickest way to turning around a franchise in today's NFL is with a star quarterback.

Just as clearly, however, investing a couple of years into the wrong quarterback can lead to an almost irreversible setback. Joeckel, NFLDraftScout.com's top-rated prospect, played a significant, if somewhat unrecognized role in the rise of Ryan Tannehill a year ago and the Heisman campaign of Johnny Manziel. The Chiefs already boast a solid left tackle in Branden Albert but the former first round pick is entering free agency and could be looking for a big pay day, that frankly, his inconsistent play and durability doesn't really warrant.

Going with an offensive lineman is usually the more safe route in building a team, yet it requires a fan base to be more patient as it can take longer to build a team through an offensive line. Joeckel would be a good selection since he was able to have a stellar season in Texas A&M's first year in the SEC, and went up against some very good defensive lineman.

CBSSports.com has the Chiefs picking No. 1 overall and taking West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith.

The Kansas City Chiefs have many roster needs to fill in this upcoming 2013 NFL Draft, and they will have either the first or second pick to grab a potential play maker to help rebuild their roster. Quarterback is a need for the Chiefs, but some are saying that there is no sure fire quarterback to take with the No. 1 spot.

However, over at CBSSports.com latest mock draft, both of their experts have the Chiefs taking West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith.

Here is their other draft expert, Rob Rang, and his opinion about the Chiefs selection of Smith:

Whether the Chiefs explore free agency, trade or the draft, clearly this is a team in need of new blood at quarterback. Smith is not held in the same regard as past No. 1 overall picks Andrew Luck or Cam Newton, but the 6-3, 220-pound senior completed 71.4 percent of his passes for 40 touchdowns and just six interceptions during the regular season. Mobile, intelligent, accurate and possessing a strong arm, Smith's upside could be enough to convince the Chiefs he's worth the gamble.

Here is what Dane Brugler says about the Chiefs taking Smith:

The Chiefs' offense, which averages a paltry 13.9 points per game, has really struggled through the air with 16 interceptions and just eight passing touchdowns. Geno Smith has cooled off the past few weeks after his hot start, but he has NFL tools and would give Kansas City an upgrade at quarterback.

Smith is being compared to mobile quarterbacks over the past few years, and if the Chiefs -- and their fan base -- can be patient then they can take the risk of drafting and then waiting for Smith to reach his full potential as a NFL quarterback.

Last season, Justin Tuggle had a decision to make about his future at Kansas State, and he chose to switch to the defensive side of the ball.

This time last season, Justin Tuggle had to make a decision that would forever change his football-playing future with Kansas State. Tuggle came to Kansas State as a junior college quarterback transfer, but he would be stuck behind Collin Klein for the final two years of his career. With Klein still having a year of eligibility left, Tuggle knew he would see very little playing time in 2012.

Tuggle made the tough decision to switch from quarterback to linebacker, and that decision has paid off not only for Tuggle, but also for the team. Asked about the move, Tuggle said he felt it was the right decision:

"I'm definitely happy I made the switch," Tuggle said. "At this time last year I was happy for the team. I wasn't happy with my position on the team and what I was doing. I wanted to help out. I feel like this year I have played a good role and helped out a lot. It feels good."

Tuggle has emerged as one of the better linebackers on the team, and sees regular action in the Wildcats' 4-2-5 defense. He was able to see action due to picking up the defense so well.

Tuggle had a season-defining play in the team's win against then-No. 6 Oklahoma early in the year. He was able to sack Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones near the goal line, who proceeded to fumble the ball, and fellow linebacker Jarell Childs picked up the ball and scored a touchdown. That play gave Kansas State momentum to defeat the Sooners.

All has not been great for Tuggle, as he has just 18 tackles this year although three sacks. However, he has made enough plays to continue earning playing time this year, plus he has earned praise from head coach Bill Snyder.

When Kansas State takes the field Jan. 3 against the Oregon Ducks, Tuggle will be right there on the field and will be a key player in trying to slow down Oregon's running game.

One key matchup in the 2013 Fiesta Bowl is the Kansas State linebackers against the Oregon running backs.

The 2013 Fiesta Bowl is going to feature a lot of points, but that does not mean that defense will be abandoned in favor of a shootout. One key matchup will be Kansas State's linebackers going up against the Oregon running backs. The Oregonian and the Wichita Eagle will be comparing the position groups leading up to the Fiesta Bowl.

Arthur Brown leads the Kansas State linebacking corp with 91 tackles, six tackles for a loss, two interceptions and a sack. He was also named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. And then there is Jarell Childs, who has 64 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Also worth mentioning is Justin Tuggle, who is used at times in Kansas State's 4-2-5 defense. In limited time, he has 18 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss.

This unit will have a tough time going up against Oregon running backs De'Anthony Thomas and Kenjon Barner. Barner was second in the Pac-12 with 1,624 yards and 21 touchdowns, and Thomas rushed for 686 yards and 11 touchdowns. These two backs are capable of breaking off huge runs if given any type of running room, no matter how small.

Here is how both newspapers rate this matchup:

The Oregonian's Aaron Fentress says: Edge to Oregon. KSU allowed 348 yards rushing to Baylor during a 52-24 loss, and was frequently gashed by Lache Seastrunk, a former Duck who left Eugene in part because he was low on the depth chart. Oregon's running game (third in the country at 328.8 yards per game) is better than Baylor's (19th, 225.5).

The Wichita Eagle's Kellis Robinett says: Edge to Oregon: Brown will be the best linebacker at the Fiesta Bowl, but depth has to count for something. Oregon has the better unit.

Kansas State will need an extraordinary performance from their linebacking corp to have a shot at slowing down the Oregon running backs.

No. 12 Missouri plays No. 10 Illinois in the annual Braggin' Rights game.

The No. 12 Missouri Tigers are taking on No. 10 Illinois in the annual Braggin' Rights game this Saturday at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. These two teams have played each other since 1980 with the exception of not playing in 1981, and they two schools have extended this series through 2017.

Illinois has traditionally dominated this series, but Missouri has won the last three games. Prior to that, Illinois had a nine-game winning streak against Missouri.

This game is considered one of the best rivalries in all of college basketball and it should live up to that hype since the two teams come into this game with a combined 21-1 record.

This is the best team that Missouri has played, but the last time they played an elite team, they fell to Louisville and their offense was stagnant in that loss. Missouri will need to avoid having a poor offensive output if they want to win.

Missouri has a very balanced attack with six players who score at least nine points per game, and they are led by Laurence Bowers, who averages 16 points per game.

Illinois is not as deep offensively, but they do have Brandon Paul, who averages 18 points per game.

This game tips off at 5 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne could cause issues for the Chiefs secondary.

The Kansas City Chiefs are taking on a very different Colts team compared to last year. The Colts' success is due to rookie quarterback Andrew Luck picking up the NFL game very well for a first-year player.

It also helps that Luck has one of the better receivers in the NFL in Reggie Wayne. Chiefs defensive back Eric Berry feels that having Luck being able to throw to a receiver like Wayne is why he is having a great rookie year:

"He's a reliable receiver," Berry said. "He's very crafty. He's been in the game for a long time, so any time he (Andrew Luck) feels like any pressure is coming on him, I think Reggie Wayne does a good job of getting open and taking that pressure off of him."

"He's a rookie, but he throws the ball like he's been in the league; he's not scared to throw the ball," Eric Berry continued.

"A lot of people are on him because he trusts his arm too much, but I just think that shows a lot of confidence in what he's trying to do. He's always going to pose a threat of scoring quick and he manages the game very well."

Berry also went on to say that Wayne has great route running abilities, and he can find the holes in a defense's scheme to get open.

Wayne is a crafty veteran that picked up tips from former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, and he is now passing those tips along to Luck to help him succeed. Even with Luck as his quarterback, Wayne has 97 receptions and 1,234 yards, which is good enough to be tied for second in both categories.

Patmon is on track to graduate this May and if he does then he can transfer to an FBS school and be immediately eligible since Patmon would have his degree.

In his three-year career at Kansas, Patmon started 28 games, including all 12 this past season. He had three interceptions this in 2012, and six overall in his career.

While the school has yet to officially announce that Patmon is transferring, head coach Charlie Weis did comment by saying, "we appreciate all that he's done during his time at Kansas and we wish him well."

This is a big blow to the Kansas secondary heading into 2013, as the three other starting defensive backs will have exhausted all of their eligibility, and KU will be looking for a whole new crop of starters.
