Former Kansas City Chiefs QB and NFL legend Joe Montana was hurt in an ATV accident over the weekend, according to various reports. Montana tumbled off the ATV riding it at his California ranch and needed stitches to repair a cut over his eye.
↵
↵↵
↵
↵
Montana, through his attorney Robert Mezzetti, canceled a scheduled appearance before the Santa Clara City Council on Tuesday, the San Jose Mercury News reported. Montana and his business partners, which include former 49ers owner Edward DeBartolo Jr., would like to build a hotel, restaurants and sports bars on two city-owned parcels of land near the proposed site for a new 49ers stadium.
↵
↵
Other than the stitches, he's OK. Whew.

Leonard Pope is a hero.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was in America, GA over the weekend when a six-year old boy, Bryson, jumped into the water. His mother, Anne Moore, tells the Americus Times-Recorder that neither Bryson nor anyone else at the party could swim --except for Pope.

"All of a sudden, I saw Bryson going down in the water and I started screaming. Leonard was inside, and he came out of nowhere and dove into the water without any hesitation, cell phone in his pocket and all. He saved my son's life, and I am so thankful that he was there for me and my child."

Incredible. For Chiefs fans, this reminds many of us of the late, great Joe Delaney, who died while trying to save three kids, who couldn't swim, in a Louisana pond.

Fortunately, this story has a happy ending as Delaney lost his life 28 years ago.

Sporting Kansas City will open LiveStrong Sporting Park on Thursday evening and they'll be unveiling not only their new stadium but their new food options as well. (Talking about food at 8:00 a.m....no, I haven't had breakfast yet.)

Kansas City is known for barbecue and Sporting KC understands that as they'll include a barbecue beef brisket sandwich and it looks good.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe checked in at No. 45 on the list of the NFL's top 100 players, as voted on by the players. No. 45 sounds about right for Bowe, who had a career year in 2010 leading the NFL in touchdown receptions.

Chiefs head coach Todd Haley presented Bowe on the NFL Network video and recalled a key moment in Bowe's 2010 season.

"We had a game against the Indainapolis Colts and Dwayne had a chance to catch a sure touchdown which would have put us ahead -- and he dropped the ball," Haley said. "There was a heavy amount of criticism and that's a moment that can break receivers.

"But the next game he's on the road at Houston and Dwayne had one of the more impressive games I've seen. To me, that was a signature moment for Dwayne and his developemnt for his abiltiy to come off maybe his worst game and have one of his best."

Chiefs fans remember that drop in the Colts game well. It could have sealed up the game but, unfortunately, Bowe dropped it and KC lost. The following game against the Texans, which Haley referenced, was also a loss for the Chiefs.

KC was able to string together a total of 10 wins in 2010 leading them to an AFC West crown. A big reason for that was Bowe's breakout season.

The 2011 NFL draft is only hours away at this point. In order to prepare for what's going down over the next three days, here's the complete 2011 NFL draft order.

The first round is usually the one folks predict the most because, after that, the guesses get harder. Most fans don't know as many names in the second round, and the team has already filled needs in the first round making it more difficult so I usually don't put much stock into multiple round mock drafts.

But, if you'd like to create a seven round mock draft, here are all the picks:

Round One

1 (1) Carolina
2 (2) Denver
3 (3) Buffalo
4 (4) Cincinnati
5 (5) Arizona
6 (6) Cleveland
7 (7) San Francisco
8 (8) Tennessee
9 (9) Dallas
10 (10) Washington
11 (11) Houston
12 (12) Minnesota
13 (13) Detroit
14 (14) St. Louis
15 (15) Miami
16 (16) Jacksonville
17 (17) New England from Oakland
18 (18) San Diego
19 (19) New York Giants
20 (20) Tampa Bay
21 (21) Kansas City
22 (22) Indianapolis
23 (23) Philadelphia
24 (24) New Orleans
25 (25) Seattle
26 (26) Baltimore
27 (27) Atlanta
28 (28) New England
29 (29) Chicago
30 (30) New York Jets
31 (31) Pittsburgh
32 (32) Green Bay

Round Two

Who will pick QB Blaine Gabbert?

That's getting harder and harder to figure out. Previously I thought this was down to the Cincinnati Bengals with the fourth pick or the Arizona Cardinals with the fifth pick. Now there are some smart folks predicting this will not happen. The Bengals could go with WR A.J. Green instead and the Cardinals could hit up the top corner in the draft CB Patrick Peterson.

In the last week, Gabbert has gone from a sure-fire top five pick to probably a top 10 pick, maybe a top 15 pick. It's been strange.

After the fifth pick, I could see him being picked up by the San Francisco 49ers with the seventh pick or Tennessee Titans with the eighth picks. I could also see the Washington Redskins taking him with the 10th pick.

I can't see him falling out of the top 10, though. He's a solid quarterback prospect and, because he has the intangibles, there will be some head coach along the way who believes he can develop him.

If Gabbert falls out of the top five, which I'm not convinced he will, I can see the 49ers selecting him and I think that would be a great spot for him.

It's been several months of all 2011 NFL draft talk and I could give you a dozen names the Kansas City Chiefs could be picking. We really can't narrow down and we really don't know who they're interested in.

An offensive tackle would be my guess for the Chiefs at this point. I like Wisconsin OT Gabe Carimi and there are other options including OT Nate Solder and OT Derek Sherrod. I can see either of those guys fitting in KC.

At receiver, there just aren't many (or any) options. There are guys like WR Leonard Hankerson and WR Torrey Smith but I don't think those are 21st pick candidates. So I think they want until the second, third or fourth round to look at receiver.

At nose tackle, it's DT Phil Taylor or bust. I'm not sure he's the Chiefs pick but he's probably the most popular mock draft pick right now. Some smart people are predicting Taylor to KC but it's worth noting that neither Mel Kiper nor Mike Mayock think that's the case.

At linebacker, I could see LB Akeem Ayers. I'm not sure if the Chiefs outside linebacker is at No. 21 but I do think that's a position they're looking at pretty hard.

Who else? Chiefs GM Scott Pioli always surprises us on draft day so I'm expecting the same on Thursday.

I've been thinking more and more about who the Kansas City Chiefs will target in the 2011 NFL draft. There's no shortage of positions they could address: offensive tackle, wide receiver, nose tackle, outside linebacker or even cornerback. There are a lot of different ways they can go.

But I keep going back to offensive tackle. It would do a number of things to help Kansas City.

First, a right tackle could help the Chiefs running game, which is the best in the NFL. The Chiefs know this is their bread and butter so they should do what they can to protect it.

Second, they also need to protect QB Matt Cassel. He's their biggest investment and most important player. The more he's protected, the better he'll play (in theory at least).

Third, it gives them a safe pick. Chiefs GM Scott Pioli likes guy who have high floors -- in other words, guys that have a low chance of becoming a bust. Carimi fits that mold.

I interviewed Carimi this week -- which you can read at Arrowhead Pride -- and right now I would say he's the favorite.

The 2011 NFL draft is barely a day away and we're not sure where QB Blaine Gabbert will go. Most 2011 NFL mock drafts have had him in the top five for the last couple of months. With the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals potentially needing a quarterback, that made the most sense. This is all assuming QB Cam Newton goes No. overall to the Carolina Panthers.

But in the past few days some are predicting could slip -- possibly even out of the top 10. Pat Kirwan of NFL.com had him falling all the way to the Miami Dolphins with the 15th pick, which is almost unimaginable considering where he's been projected to go in the past couple of months.

There are more than a few people who now believe he could fall to the bottom of the top 10 or even out of the top 10 completely.

I'm not sure I buy that.

There are six teams that could use a quarterback in the top 10 -- Bills, Bengals, Cardinals, 49ers, Titans and Redskins. One of those teams will roll the dice on Gabbert. With the NFL lockout there's no other way to improve your roster (at least for now) so the draft is your best bet at securing a quarterback. Gabbert is one of the top two quarterbacks in the draft.

Look for him to stay in the top 10 on April 28.
