With a three-game winning streak, OKC is poised to be a top seed in the Western Conference.

After losing to the Heat on Christmas Day, the Thunder have rattled off wins against Phoenix, Dallas and Houston. OKC has won 15 of their last 17 games, but still trail the Clippers -- winners of 17 of their last 17 -- in various NBA power rankings.

Marc Stein of ESPN cites Oklahoma City's efficient offense -- 110.1 points per 100 possessions -- as the reason the Thunder are the second-best team in the NBA. NBC's Pro Basketball Talk urges readers to not look too hard into the Christmas Day loss to the Heat, but instead look at it as a mark to aspire to come playoff time.

CBS Sports' Matt Moore rounds out the rankers by also giving the Thunder the No. 2 nod and praises head coach Scottie Brooks' system, clearly impressed with where the Thunder are without James Harden.

OKC is 24-6 and is eight games ahead of Denver in the Northwest Division.

Rookie sensation Andrew Luck and the Colts come to town looking to lock up a playoff birth

By most metrics, the Kansas City is the worst team in the NFL. They are first in point differential (-172), tied for first in losses (12) and have scored the least amount of points of any team in the league (195). But with two games to go in the 2012 season, the Chiefs haven't locked up the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. But with the Colts on Sunday and a road game in Denver to close out the season, everything points to Kansas City ending up at 2-14.

The Colts come to town in control of their own destiny, needing just one win to clinch an AFC Wild Card berth. Andrew Luck has impressed by most standards, but especially when you compare him to other first-year quarterbacks. With 20 touchdown passes this season, Luck trails only Russell Wilson (21) for most by a rookie QB. He should also break Cam Newtown's record of 4.051 passing yards by a rookie in the first half against the Chiefs.

Jamaal Charles has been the lone bright spot for Kansas City this season. After a knee blow-out ended his 2011 season early, the Chiefs Pro Bowler has returned to form, rushing for 1,239 yards this season. And with an injury possibly keeping Brady Quinn out this week in favor of Ricky Stanzi, the Chiefs may lean more heavily on their feature back.

Kansas City travels to rival Oakland in a battle to avoid the AFC West basement.

Misery loves company. A win for the Chiefs over the Raiders on Sunday would make both teams 3-10, leaving Kansas City lowly, but not lonely, at the bottom of the AFC West. The Raiders look to avoid the basement as host Kansas City in Week 15.

Two weeks ago, the Chiefs had their best game of the season, besting Carolina amid the Jovan Belcher tragedy. But they returned to form against Cleveland, dropping last Sunday's game 30-7. Kansas City is currently tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the worst record in the league, with both teams posting a 2-11 record through 14 weeks.

The Raiders, equally miserable of late, have lost six straight with their last win coming against Chiefs in Week 8. This is Oakland's final game at O.co Coliseum this season, as they travel to Carolina and San Diego to close out the year.

The number one pick in the 2013 NFL Draft is still up for grabs as the 2-10 Chiefs face the 4-8 Browns

The words "travesty", "tragedy" and "lost season" have all been kicked around when talking about the Kansas City Chiefs this season. But after the loss of Jovan Belcher to a befuddling murder-suicide, the Chiefs gutted out an emotional 27-21 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The win broke an eight-game losing streak and Kansas City will look to win two in a row for the first time this season at Cleveland Browns stadium.

Jamaal Charles has been the lone highlight for the Chiefs when he has gotten significant play, averaging five yards per carry and totaling over 1,200 yards from scrimmage. The Browns are simply average against the run, so a quick start from their star running back would do wonders for Kansas City's chances in this game. But with the No. 1 pick looming next year, how many games do the Chiefs want to win this season?

Cleveland's season has been marred by second-half collapses, so Sunday's 20-17 defeat over Oakland was a sight for sore eyes. The Browns won't contend this year, but Brandon Weeden will have another full offseason to prove that he should the quarterback of Cleveland's future.

In their search for improved starting pitching, the Royals may unload their DH with Seattle and Baltimore as possible destinations.

To bolster a paltry pitching staff, the Kansas City Royals may choose to unload designated hitter Billy Butler, who has progressed into one of the game's best pure hitters over the last six seasons. The Mariners, in their forever quest for offense, may be looking to snag the 26-year-old, according to NBC's Pro Baseball Talk. Also mentioned are the Orioles, who have young starters to burn and a new-found sense of hope after their 2012 playoff run.

Butler had a career year in 2012, with his power finally matching his batting average skills. He hit 29 home runs and batted .313, good for a wRC+ of 140, which rates Butler 40% better than an average hitter. The designated hitter is owed $16 million over the next two season and has a $12.5 million team option for 2015 with just a $1 million buyout.

Both the Mariners and Orioles have depth at starting pitching with young prospects to move. Baltimore has already showcased the potential of Zach Britton and Chris Tillman, with the Mariners being able to offer a potential combination of minor leaguers.

Kansas City's No. 1 outfield prospect is garnering all kinds of attention in the Hot Stove season

Wil Myers appears primed to be a franchise player, but exactly which franchise that is remains undetermined. The Mets are showing a heavy interest in making the Royals prospect wear a different shade of blue and join third basemen David Wright as the future of the team.

Myers was the Royals' thrid-round pick in 2009, and - according to Baseball America - the nearly 22-year old outfielder is the number one prospect in the Royals' farm system and one of the best in baseball as a whole. Myers' 2012 batting line doesn't belie this, with a .314 batting average and 37 home runs splitting time between Double-A Northwest Arkasnas and Triple-A Omaha.

The Royals are already rich with young hitting talent at the big-league level with Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas manning the corner infield spots for the foreseeable future. Their weakness is pitching staff, and Mets' prospect Zach Wheeler could be an enticing piece for Kansas City going forward. Though nothing has been mentioned, be certain Kansas City is going to put a premium on their young stud.

The Royals, who haven't finished above .500 since 2003, are coming off a third-place finish in the AL Central.

Currently serving a suspension for violating team rules, MU guard Michael Dixon was accused and summarily cleared of rape charges.

Missouri Tigers guard Michael Dixon was accused of rape on August 20, according to Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star. However, according to the police report, the case was closed on Nov. 16 with charges being dismissed due to lack of evidence.

Dixon was suspended from the team by head coach Frank Wraith in October for violating team rules. It is unknown at this time if the senior's suspension was regarding the accusation. Though cleared of legal wrongdoing, Dixon will await further disciplinary action from the university.

Dixon is a fourth-year senior out of Kansas City and has averaged double-digit points in each of the last two seasons. Dixon scored 22 points in Missouri's first round exit against Norfolk State in the NCAA Tournament last season. He has yet to set foot on the floor for the Tigers this season, but has been practicing and traveling with the team during his suspension.

After an embarrassment of the upstart Bobcats, the Thunder are back in the conversation as an elite team in the NBA

Winning an NBA game by 45 points is certain to raise eyebrows. Oklahoma City defeated Charlotte 114-69 on Monday, and with wins over the Cilppers and 76ers in the last week have risen as high as number three in some NBA power rankings. Their lone loss of the week came at Boston, where the Thunder lost 108-100.

SB Nation's Seth Rosenthal has the Thunder at No. 3 behind the Spurs and the Grizzlies, with teams from the West occupying the top three spots. Rosenthal points out Oklahoma City's struggles on one side of the ball in particular:

...their defense has faltered noticeably in the last five or six games.

ESPN's NBA stat guru John Hollinger also has the Thunder at No. 3, just a tick above the Miami Heat. Fellow ESPNer Marc Stein has them at No. 4, jumping them two spots from the previous week, citing that their "rightful place" is in the top five.

Kansas' center and shooting guard were placed on the 50-player list, which will eventually determine the college basketball player of the year

One Jayhawk seeks to round out a fine college career while another looks to start one. Senior center Jeff Withey and freshman guard Ben McLemore were given the honor of being placed on the Naismith early season watch list, the first of several steps in determining the college basketball player of the year.

Withey, a seven-footer from San Diego, CA, is in his second season as a starter for Kansas. Last season, Withey led the Big 12 in blocks and averaged 3.6 per game. He added nine points and 6.3 rebounds per game to his junior campaign. The Jayhawks starter was a factor in the national championship game against Kentucky, pulling down seven rebounds in a losing effort.

McLemore, a 6'5" shooting guard from St. Louis, comes into Kansas as Rivals.com's 17th-ranked recruit and No. 4 at his position. While he has not had the chance to build a resume like Withey, McLemore's potential is enough to get his name on the list.

The Naismith watch list is compiled each year by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club's Board of Selectors. In mid-February, the list will be whittled down to 30 names, with the Naismith Trophy voting academy eventually narrowing the list down to four finalists.

Houston looks to make a statement against Tulsa, who are undefeated in conference play

When you can throw the ball like Houston, no game is ever over. To beat undefeated Tulsa, the Cougar passing attack will need to keep Golden Hurrican defense on the field, winded.

Sophomore quarterback David Piland leads the charge for a Cougar team that averages over 340 passing yards per game. Piland has thrown for 16 touchdowns and will most likely eclipse 3,000 yards by the time this game is over. Houston is coming off a 48-28 loss to East Carolina, which put the Cougars below .500 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.

Tulsa has been stellar this season, with their lone losses coming to big conference teams Arkansas and Iowa St. Junior running back Je'Terian Douglas is rushing for 7.7 yards per carry for a ground game that ranks 15th in the nation with over 230 yards per game.
