So, who is Doug Pederson?

Well, we know that he is the guy that may be putting that same autograph on a Kansas City Chiefs coaching contract to become Brian Daboll's replacement as the offensive coordinator.

What some of us may not know... is that Doug Pederson started out his NFL career in Miami as a 25 year old quarterback sitting behind Dan Marino for seven games in 1993.

We may not know that Doug Pederson didn't throw his first touchdown until 1998 with the Green Bay Packers against the Minnesota Vikings with Tyrone Davis being the recipient of that 11 yard TD pass. Also, none other than Andy Reid was his QB's coach for that special time in Doug's life... moments later, he threw another TD pass to Bill Schroeder (this one, for 16 yards.) Good times.

In 1999, when Andy Reid left Green Bay for the head coaching position of the Philadelphia Eagles. Guess who followed him?

If you said Doug Pederson, you must be the smartest person reading this post, because you, my AP friend are absolutely correct. In 1999, Doug Pederson started nine games for Eagles, he threw seven touchdowns, he won the same amount of NFL games that year as the entire 2012 Kansas City Chiefs football team.

Impressive?

Not really, the Chiefs only won two games... remember?

Does a guy with 522 NFL passing attempts really have what it takes to lead the Kansas City chiefs offense under Andy Reid in 2013? Would a guy like Pat Shurmur or Brad Childress make more sense for our offensive offense?

Perhaps.

That said, Andy Reid knows a lot more about football than I do and if he thinks Doug Pederson is the man, Doug Pederson is probably the man. He has never called plays before in the NFL, but he has been a QB with four NFL clubs and that counts for something in my book. Besides, "The Doug's" middle name is "Irvin," just exactly how can you go wrong with a name like "Irvin" in the NFL.

So, some of us may now know that Doug Pederson was an NFL QB, and that he played sparingly from 1993-2004. That's all well and good, but just how did he get to the point where he is being hired as the Chiefs new OC.

Does he have any coaching experience at all?

Well, after he retired, he was hired as the head football coach at Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, LA. The Cavaliers were in the state football playoffs all four years that Coach Pederson led the program and finished with a record of 33-7 with an 8-3 post season record.

Scott Ferrell – sports editor of The Shreveport Times – said that there were several reasons that have led to success at Calvary. via www.tigerrag.com From Here.

“One thing you they got when they hired him (Doug Pederson) was instant credibility,” Ferrell said. “You have a guy that had a long career in the NFL and had a great college career at an area university. He knows how to coach young players and a guy with Pederson’s kind of experience can surely make an impact on a young player. You add that with the addition of disenchanted former Evangel students and you knew they had a chance to be successful. They have been able to develop some great facilities out there (Calvary) and that has obviously helped as well.”

In 2007, Pederson led the Cavaliers to the state semi-finals and a 12-1 record on the season. Calvary was quarterbacked by Jake Booty – the youngest brother of Josh and John David who played their careers at Evangel.

He seems to have some good qualities outside of football as well, such as this:

Pederson is involved with numerous community and charity works including youth groups and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He is also involved in foundations associated with Cystic Fibrosis, Cerebral Palsy and hosts the annual Doug Pederson Celebrity Golf Tournament in Choudrant, La.

But focusing on the football side, the Eagles obviously took notice of his coaching prowess. The same month that Scott Pioli took over the GM job of the Kansas City Chiefs (Jan 2009.) The Philadelphia Eagles hired Doug Pederson as their offensive quality control guy (think Jim Bob Cooter in 2012.)

Pederson was promoted to QB's coach on Feb, 8th, 2011 and worked with the Philadelphia Eagles stable of quarterbacks for the last two years under Head Coach Andy Reid.

The last two seasons of the Eagles don't really scream great QB's or please hire people on our staff to fix our offense in Kansas City. So... on the surface, this hire would scare me. I get that Andy Reid is a great coach, I get that he will find us a QB and that we will throw the ball a lot in his version of the West Coast Offense. I get all of that.

But is Doug Pederson the right guy?

I don't know Arrowhead Pride. First of all, I'm basing this entire post off of a tweet from Alex Marvez, so it might prove to be false and meaningless. But, if it's true, is this the right way to go?

Some fans complained a lot in Kansas City about having Todd Haley (the golfer) as our Head Coach, with several people claiming that he just couldn't possibly understand the game without ever really even playing it.

Now, we have a young coach (44) coming in that might work for one of the best head coaches in the league in Andy Reid that has actually played QB in the NFL and it still may not be good enough for some... myself included.

Though, I'm a positive fan. If this is the move, if this is the guy. I'll get behind him, I'll have some hope, I'll break out the Kool-Aid and start pouring KC Super Bowl shots in January. But that's just how I roll... downhill and delusional.

It's great to have some excitement again about this team. Everyday this Andy Reid hire is growing on me and growing on me like a mustache. Personally, I'm putting a lot of pressure on Reid and Hunt to get these hires correct. Am I alone in this thought process, or is everyone else worried too?

Good morning Arrowhead Pride and welcome to game day. If you are like me, a die hard Chiefs fan, that logo probably makes you want spew Raiders all over your Chargers toilet.

It's Broncos week, always an interesting time for Chiefs fans, even in a year the team is 2-13. Earlier in the week, our boy, NigerianNightmare did the usual thing and posted the following post over at the Mile High Report:

1586 comments later, it has become a cesspool of anger and venom between two franchises with fan bases that don't really care for each other and rightfully so, it's a rivalry (remember rivalries Scott Pioli?) Around AP, I can be pretty mature some of the time... when it comes to talking with fans of other teams, I can be respectful and have been in the past. However, when I read so many negative comments about my team in what is supposed to be an informative post about the football side of our rivalry, I can and will trash talk, stand up for my team and defend Kansas City. Sure, it may be like arguing with undisciplined children on sugar highs, but there is still some fun to be had.

In doing so, I was challenged!

Because... like the boisterous Chiefs fan that I am, I went into their house and claimed our lousy offensive team would beat Denver in their house today. It was trash talk, I'm well aware that the Broncos are a playoff team, that Peyton Manning is one the greatest foreheads of all time, that John Elway looks like a horse, that Colorado has mountains because the state is full of trolls and also, that on paper the Donkeys should beat the crap out of the Chiefs this year.

It doesn't matter to me, I'm a Chiefs fan... Cut me open, I bleed red (which consequently if you cut a Broncos fan {hold back from actually doing so today} they do too, because they are all secretly Chiefs fans), I love this team and I expect wins on Sunday's. No matter the win totals, the draft position on the line, the benefits of losing, the fate of our GM and Head Coach or the wants and desires of other Chiefs fans, I always expect the "W."

Sure, the Chiefs let me down, they fail, they are terrible right now, they have an awful offense, they have a coaching staff that "doesn't know", they have no QB's that can actually play the position of quarterback better than average on their best days, they get blown out often, they haven't won a playoff game since free agency was the "new NFL trend" and it's been four decades since the team won a Super Bowl. Believe me, I'm well aware of all this garbage about the Chiefs.

But, I still expect the Kansas City Chiefs to win, I still have Arrowhead Pride, I still defend my team and I still accept the "Pride" challenge from a Donkey fan when he feeds me this challenge:

I hope the Chiefs beat the Bronco’s in 2012 Chiefs style 3-0. Four field goal attempts, one made!!!

We know this lousy offense isn’t going to go off, but I hate the Broncos. I hate their colors, I hate their foreheads, I hate their horsey faced resemblance and I want the Chiefs to go in there and grind it out on their ass.

They probably won’t because the Chiefs are terrible and can’t coach, but that doesn’t change the fact that I expect the Chiefs to win every game.

I want our Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles to run for 300 yards, I want Tamba Hali to have another Peyton bloody jersey game, I want Justin Houston to pick up sacks like he is in freakin’ Amsterdam. I want Derrick Johnson to pretend it’s 2009 and run back two INT’s for touchdowns.

It’s Broncos week, screw the blue and orange, screw their disrespectful fans. On Sunday it’s on, number one draft pick or not I want our seven Pro Bowl players to show up and try to carry this team to a victory one more time.

I want Dustin to walk over and give Britton a noogie and tell him he’s not in the Pro Bowl. I want Berry to pick off Manning and run by him screaming I’m the man from Tennessee. I want Dexter McCluster to be open like he always is, but somehow manage to have one of our worthless QB’s get him the football in space…for the love of the Football Gods.

I want to eat beer and drink BBQ. Let’s watch our Chiefs show up for one last game and beat the shit out of the Donkey’s… screw them, their QB, the Hall of Fame QB consultant, their mountains, their scenery, their back-wooded women, their high as kite citizens, their winning record and their playoff team.

Just for one day, let’s be a good team. Let’s be the Kansas City Chiefs of good year… Maybe you can think of one.

Let’s beat the crap out of Denver. Let’s pound a few back as Arenas finally finds a dam Alabama like punt return, let’s chug some cold ones as Rick(-y) Stanzi does something Meri…. wait… he’ll be inactive… never mind.

We’re a 2-13 pissed off fan base that is being mocked by our rivals, the hell with that, the hell with Denver, to hell with their faces. Let’s go there and drink all of the Cooooooooooooooooors and shit KC BBQ aftermath in their toilets.

Among other things, which is to be expected, it's their house after all.

However, I wouldn't just stand by as our fan base was mocked shamelessly. Hell guys, read some of this crap, I'm not going to give them the satisfaction of re-posting all of their donkey shenanigans, but crap like this really got to me:

Missouri is a laughing stock fly-over state filled with country homers.
KC only exists to make my flight from Denver to Miami that much longer.

The only thing the queefs have to hang their hat on (in over 40 years) is Lynn friggin Dawson. LOL. Seriously?

My favorite: Clark hunt slapped a coat of paint on Arrowhead stadium and called it “New Arrowhead Stadium” and the KC homers lapped it up like dumb puppies. (You should read how that oil rich Texas family is ripping off that county and state with tax dollars.)

Luv how ya’ll have lapped up our trash the past few years and actually got excited about it(I almost feel guilty like stealing from blind children): Orton (2.6 million for 1 game. LOL), Brady -lol, Hyllis LOL, Hochstein LOL,….I have some ocean front property in Arizona if any queefs fan is interested. …Yep Pioli is awesome.I pray he stay’s.

From owner, to world class skiing, a booming economy, a world class destination, a FO that isn’t so embarrasingly inept, to draft, to current players…..KC is a joke compared to Denver. Plain and simple.

Moving Forward.

Today, I was auto-programming my TV, because I was watching the game on a television that I don't normally use... When the Chiefs game finally came on, it was when Jamaal Charles was scampering down the field for an 80 yard touchdown. I was elated... that was two games in a row where the offense finally had first drive touchdowns.

Just awesome!

There is no need to rehash the history of this feat, we all know the Chiefs has been abysmal on first drives since 2010. When the Browns got the ball, the game seemed like it was going to go in the Chiefs favor. Tamba Hali sacked the QB, the Browns eventually had to punt and the Chiefs drove down the field again with the help of some great passes from Brady Quinn to Dwayne Bowe.

Of course, then Steve Maneri dropped what would have been an amazing one handed touchdown reception as he hit the ground. Ryan Succop soon followed that up with a field goal try that clanked off the uprights from only 27 yards out. At the time, I still had hope that the Chiefs could find some resolve, hold the lead and beat the Cleveland Browns in their house... like the opening minutes of the game suggested would be inevitable.

However, it wasn't to be. Most of you guys watched the game, you watched Dustin Colquitt's effort on Joshua Cribbs huge return and other moments in the game where the Chiefs just didn't seem to be in it. Overall, beyond the first quarter, it was just the return of 2012 Kansas City Chiefs football.

A team with poor coaching, questionable fundamentals and the Houdini like ability to disappear when the going gets tough. I don't want to pound on the Chiefs. None of this is new, we have watched this team all season, no matter how much we want them to be... they are just not a good football team.

Last week was incredibly difficult. I still feel for Romeo Crennel, Scott Pioli and Gary Gibbs. What they witnessed with Jovan Belcher is something that would be impossible to watch for any human. That has still got to be weighing heavily on their minds, though I can't pretend I know what they are going through or how they are coping, because I have no idea. It's just speculation.

Watching this team today, I was hoping for a victory as I always do. But, there was a small part of me that wanted to see the Chiefs put it together under this current regime. Part of me was rooting for them to win out this season and look like the team that Scott Pioli envisioned since he first told us about "The Right 53" in January of 2009.

Because I felt so badly for him, I didn't want to continue to face the reality that he hasn't done a very good job, at least this week. I felt just as bad for Romeo Crennel because of what happened and how the team responded to his good nature, he was perfect for that moment and I wanted the Chiefs to pull it together, because I genuinely respect, admire and appreciate Romeo as a man.

Perhaps that's stupid, perhaps I am not saying what I am trying to say the right way. After all, I'm just an idiot with a keyboard and membership to Arrowhead Pride. But during this game I felt a lot of emotions for what I want from this team moving forward.

Sure, the story book tale would involve the Chiefs overcoming everything, putting it all together and finally becoming the team that some of us thought they were capable of being the last couple seasons. However, this isn't a story, the Chiefs aren't imaginary and a happy ending doesn't appear to be in the cards.

This was the Chiefs eighth blowout loss this season. It started with a lot of hope, but then the lack of leadership, talent and ability to execute remembered reality. And the reality is, this is not a good football team. It's not "The Right 53", the process has failed and despite all of the soft feelings we had over last weekend... these aren't the men to lead this team into the future.

It's sad, our Kansas City Chiefs are a broken franchise with several high quality pieces. Matt Cassel is a fine human being. Romeo Crennel is one of the nicest coaches that I have ever seen, you just want to give him a hug. Scott Pioli seems like a genius, I wanted him to be "The Don" and witness him hoist a Lombardi Trophy. Brady Quinn's words were very touching last week and he seems to have some talent and received little opportunities in the NFL, we wanted to love him as our QB.

The problem is that together, as good as they are, it's just not working and I don't think moving forward it will ever work, it's just not the right mix in the NFL. That really sucks, because these are good people, they seem to have good morals and they handled a delicate, dreadful situation in the NFL with as much class as can ever be expected.

That said, when it comes to winning football games, it's just not enough and I think we will see the team move on soon. Last week, I questioned myself, I wondered about life and how important winning is, I wondered about all the time I spend as a fan and how much it really mattered in the big picture... In the big picture, winning means nothing, it's just a form of entertainment, it's a feel good notion and not much more.

Though... Steve Chiefs reminded me that football isn't reality. It's an escape from reality that a lot of use to just enjoy life. A vacation from the everyday, a metaphor to the bigger problems that we face in the real world. It's simply meant to be fun. Watching the Chiefs is supposed to be fun. Talking about Super Bowls and individual players performances is meant to be entertaining, there is nothing wrong with picking up the pieces and having fun again.

I want the Chiefs to be good. I like to discuss draft picks and who the GM will be, I like to be a smart ass on Arrowhead Pride and breakdown every little thing Chiefs related.

Moving forward, I think we will see some change...

When?

I don't know, but under this regime the team is broken and I want it to be fixed... now. The Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of good pieces, but they need more than that. They need a new set of eyes going into the draft, they need to get a QB that can throw the ball down the field and a Head Coach that can game plan at a current NFL level with the best of them. We need some changes on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball... not to mention special teams.

The philosophy seems dated. We are watching winning football teams air it out and putting points on the board. This Chiefs regime seems content with kicking field goals and running the clock out. On defense, we like to play off the receiver and play zone, have linebackers chasing down WR's and tight ends instead of blitzing the QB. That won't work, you have to hit WR's early in this new NFL because of the rules, if they sit back and can't attack the receiver after five yards, they have no chance to cover them. It just doesn't work... we need coaches that can coach with these new rules and adjust. Kansas City tries to force it's scheme on the league, instead of adapting it's scheme to the new age. At least, that's how it seems to me.

I don't know what the answers are, I don't know who we need to hire, but I do believe that if we are ever going to move forward, we need to move on.

92 games in, and it's looks like San Diego is finally due for some Norv Turnover at the end of the season.

Norv Turner's record so far with San Diego is 53-39. He has taken the San Diego Chargers to six playoff games and won three of those contests. Seemingly, it seemed every single season the media declared San Diego a Super Bowl favorite. Was that declaration due to Norv and his head coaching abilities?

Probably not, because it also seemingly seemed that Norv Turner was on the hot seat every single season since Marty Schottenheimer was replaced after the 2006 season where the Chargers produced a record of 14-2 and fell short of reaching the ultimate prize when New England beat them by a mere three points at home in the playoffs, after a first round bye.

I'm not here to celebrate Norv Turner's tenure in San Diego. Ugh. I'm a Kansas City Chiefs fan, I despise Norv Turner and I was never very partial of seeing those close ups of his neck on the sidelines.

While I respect his offensive creativity, I've always thought he was in over his head as a head coach in the NFL. I don't think that I am alone in this thought process. San Diego fans have been clamoring for Norv to be replaced off and on since Marty was shown the door... and rightfully so, the guy doesn't seem to have what it takes to lead a team to the big game in the NFL.

Granted, as a Chiefs fan, I don't have much room to talk about wins and losses, much less what it takes to win the big one. Since 2007, the Kansas City Chiefs record is almost the exact opposite of Norv Turner's. Our favorite team hasn't won a playoff game in that stretch (not since Norv's NFL coaching career was knee high to a Cowboy), nor have they fielded a QB with the talent of Phillip Rivers. During his tenure, Norv's team was obviously the better squad overall. I should probably keep my mouth shut about things I know nary about.

However, this is Arrowhead Pride, Norv Turner is in the news, I have a big mouth and San Diego is a hated division rival. So, I'm a little worried about what this means for the Kansas City Chiefs moving forward.

I'm not just worried because our team is down in the dumps, reportedly, the San Diego Chargers are also going to fire their GM that always blows major decisions... A.J. Smith. Of course, this is AP, you want your sources (as if this won't be all over AP tomorrow.)

Satisfied?

I know reading those words puts a crooked smile on my face. I hate the Chargers. But is this a good thing? Since 2007, the San Diego Chargers have been an underachieving team. Thanks to the mismanagement by A.J. Smith in all things personnel and the lack of leadership of men, by Norv Turner.

Think about it, the Chargers have had the number one offense and the number one defense during that time in the same season (2010) and only managed to win nine games that year under Norv's expert tutelage. How the hell does that happen?

Norv Turner and A.J. Smith, that's how... Of course, the Chiefs did little to take advantage of their bumbling ways, but seeing a change on the horizon does not bode well for our future chances in Kansas City. The Chargers job will attract some attention, the media loves Phillip Rivers, it adores Antonio Gates, it will make those job openings seem like positions in heaven just opened up.

A lot of fans around here dream of Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher, Andy Reid, Mike Holgrem, Chip Kelly, Marty Schottenheimer and any other big name that they can find to replace Romeo Crennel. Scenario after scenario is thrown out there in hopes of something better to come along... Well, in San Diego, the hopes that we seek, will most likely become a reality and San Diego may actually become a football team that lives up to it's overblown potential for the first time since Marty was out there. That worries me a little.

But, at the same time, I like a challenge. The AFC West has 'Norv-turned' into the laughingstock of the NFL over the last decade. Sure, it produces a good team here and there, but overall, the division has been fairly Benny Hill recently. I'd like to see that change. In a perfect NFL for me, the AFC West would contain the four best teams in football every season. Instead, we have what we have... Sigh.

And where will Norv go from here?

I know a lot of fans will call for Norv Turner and his beautiful neck to come and coach the Chiefs offense. I know that I've said it before, and I've read it around AP over the years from other users; every time the annual fire Norv talks crested in San Diego.

Is that a feasible plan?

Could the Chiefs fans coexist with Norv Turner if he was actually calling the plays in Kansas City?

I don't know, what I do believe is that as a head coach, Norv Turner is in over his head. That said, as an offensive coordinator, he is one of the best in the NFL that will be available, if not a little overrated in some aspects. Some years he has the best offenses in the league, while others... he is in the middle of the pack depending on which team he was with over his career. See for yourself at PFR, it's interesting to look at his career as a head coach versus how he did as an offensive coordinator. At least, I thought it was interesting.

Regardless of where Norv ends up, or who replaces him in San Diego. I'm smiling this morning. Why? Because the Chiefs aren't the only team in the AFC West experiencing drama and heartbreak mixed with questions about the future. I hate the Chargers (have I mentioned I hate the Chargers) and they could have cut the cord long ago. Instead they stuck by the neck and it's been hilarious.

Just because I can, I will also throw a dig in at the Raiders. I hear they are courting Jon Gruden to be their coach... Didn't they just get another new coach five minutes ago... Wow! Of course, the Raiders reportedly refuted it. But just the fact that the Chiefs hated rivals are swimming in their own miserable seasons is somewhat redeeming to me.

Anyway, the Norv Turner - A.J. Smith era seems to be heading to a close. How do you feel about that Arrowhead Pride?

Win Journal 2012: A Kansas City Chiefs Win

A few weeks ago, if the Chiefs did manage to get that elusive win number two. I was planning on writing some satire about the team and their seemingly everlasting non-efforts to put together a winning performance on game day.

Week after abysmal week passed and the Chiefs were unable to break that low glass ceiling. The losses piled up, fans went into revolt mode seeking change… We called for jobs; we spoke with venom about the individual players and their lack of heart and ability. Fans paid for banners to fly on game day and wore black to the stadium in hopes of expediting that change.

A few weeks ago, I even made a post where I satirically called for the jobs of every member of the Chiefs organization, from Scott Pioli on down to the maintenance guys to be fired, using an angry Vince McMahon "You’re Fired" gif to hammer down the message. It was the response of a guy that just simply wants to see his team win, not be the laughingstock of the entire National Football League. I was extremely frustrated with the team and seeing the Chiefs makes some changes to show they actually cared about winning was all that I wanted to read when I was refreshing AP constantly, watching the news or listening to sports talk radio.

Instead of ever receiving that news, I was woke up on Saturday morning by a phone call. It was my roommate… who is also one of the most pessimistic diehard Chiefs fans that I have ever met, even though he still attends every home game regardless of their record. We are constantly heckling each other and we have a very distinct friendship that involves lots of insults, alcohol, video games and long drawn out arguments about the Kansas City Chiefs potential. If anyone has noticed a significant fall in my Chiefs optimism over the years, he might be the root cause of my faltering blinders with his pessimistic logic versus my annual; we are definitely winning the Super Bowl this year hope in constant battle mode.

I don’t remember his exact words, but he informed me that the Arrowhead facilities were being evacuated and that some people were reported to be dead. At first, I thought he was messing with me, so I didn’t really take him seriously. After some back and forth exchanges in a style not suitable for AP’s reading eyes, he finally convinced me that he wasn’t making up a god awful story.

In my situation now, I’ve been somewhat suppressed from the internet. For about a month, I’ve been at my Dad’s place in Omaha, Nebraska… where he lives in the stone age with no internet or cable TV. Of course, I had my G2X smart phone with me. However, my T-Mobile service doesn’t get above a 2G signal in this area, so searching the internet with it had become a tedious chore of waiting, frustration and reboots.

So immediately after I had hung up the phone, I started to try and load AP… My imagination was going crazy and the site wasn’t loading very quickly, nor was Facebook or anything else. I turned on the television, thinking surely, the Omaha news would be on top of the story. No go there; it was just cartoons and talk shows.

My mind was spinning, did Matt Cassel get shot? Did an angry fan take out their frustration on Scott Pioli or Romeo Crennel? It’s crazy how your mind speculates when searching for answers in a situation where something tragic may have taken place and you are unable to get the truth. In my case, it always tends to drift to the most negative scenarios possible.

Finally, thanks to the mobile fixes that SB Nation underwent last week (Thanks to everyone involved), I was able to look at a version of AP that didn’t look written in foreign code with my slow connection speed. That nonsense aside, I slowly began to learn the details of Saturday’s tragedy. Suddenly, all of my animosity and disdain for the management of our favorite football team seemed quite petty and unreasonable.

I thought of all the comments that I have made on Arrowhead Pride over the years and how self absorbed I can be. It made me feel like I had no perspective about the bigger picture in life. I simply just wanted to see winning football and didn't really care too much about the people making the decisions or wearing the uniforms, so long as they performed in winning fashion.

There are many times in life, where winning can seem like it means everything, it cloaks reality and lets people bask in a pseudo realm of what is really important. The NFL displays this more than most other sports that I have watched; it consumed me, and made me a ball of depression because the Chiefs were not winners.

Saturday was one of those moments where reality grabs the illusion of winning being everything; tears it apart right in front of your eyes with a vengeance and leaves you questioning your morals and values. At least that is what it did to me… and why? Because of what Jovan Belcher did? A football player for the Kansas City Chiefs…really? It’s not the wars in the Middle East, crimes and death happening everyday all across the world. No, no, no… for me, it took one person on a football team that I love, to do something unthinkable to get me to say, "Perhaps football and my aspirations of seeing the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl... just isn't that important. After all, it’s just a game and I profit in no way from their success." Logically speaking, to me, that notion is pathetic and I feel ashamed of myself for falling into that mindset.

Really my AP brotherhood, I spend countless hours on Arrowhead Pride reading and writing about the Chiefs. It is something that I love to do; it keeps me out of trouble and helps me keep my dreams of someday being a professional writer alive and well. When I write something that gets good reviews or a comment that turns green… I get to bask in self praise and give myself some pats on the back. How important is that, in the overall scheme of life, Arrowhead Pride?

Question like this among others, were things that I was asking myself on Saturday. I thought of my relationship with my children and how I could have used some of this AP time to better myself instead of immersing my time in Chiefs football. I thought about Zoey and how she would never have her real parents… that really bothered me. But then I thought, why doesn't it bother me when all of the other kids in this country are left orphaned for various reasons, I’m never outraged over that and I do nothing to help them… Am I so shallow, that I only care when it happens to someone famous? Or is that just the world we currently live in? I really don’t know the answer to that, or perhaps, I just don’t want to admit the answer.

Regardless of the thoughts that passed through my head on Saturday. I still love the Kansas City Chiefs, I may have been looking at the entire organization in a temporary different light after Jovan’s actions. But love like that doesn't just vanish overnight; instead it just went through a perspective transformation.

On Sunday, I was ready to watch the game. Unfortunately, Omaha decided not to put it on TV… I was already disappointed that I couldn’t go to Arrowhead, this didn’t help that disappointment, it was like missing a close ones funeral.

Instead of watching the game, I went to the AP game threads and followed along the action slowly. It was great to read the comments and to see the hope. The Chiefs lousy season was on the back burner, coaching woes were put aside. Sure, all of the same players and coaches were on the field, but suddenly, the hate that had built up over the course of a 1-10 season fell to the wayside. Chiefs fans were having their own internal, "What’s really important?" battles and for the most part… I believe we will become a stronger fan base because of the horrible scenario that Jovan Belcher forced us all into.

I didn’t get to watch the game, see Brady Quinn’s poise… or witness Dontari Poe man handle Carolina’s line like a beast. I didn’t get to see the emotion on the players faces as they contemplated the awful scenario that they were placed into. I didn’t get to see Jamaal Charles run through large holes made by a patched up emotional offensive line. I didn’t get to see defenders fall down injured, seemingly, play after play throughout the game. I didn’t get to see Clark Hunt give Dwayne Bowe a hug on the sideline or watch as the moment that Cam Newton’s completed pass wasn’t quite far enough to score in the final moments. I didn’t get to see the Chiefs celebrate with uncontrollable emotion in the wake of Saturday’s events with their first victory in what seems like forever.

I only got to read about on Arrowhead Pride with other fans that I have grown to respect and love over the years. I read it while holding my son and daughter tight. There was only one feeling that was coming over me as I read about the win… "Pride."

Absolute, Arrowhead Pride.

I was so proud of my team, not for the false illusion and greatness that comes from being a winner in the NFL. No, pride for tackling real adversity that I ignore on a daily basis... They did so in a way that I couldn’t fathom being asked to do so soon after a tragedy. It was an amazing feat, and I was thoroughly proud to be a Chiefs fan in those special moments after the game.
