The month of May is supposed to bring flowers according to old adage. In the world of football coverage, however, it brings about a myriad of lists each year as coverage dies down and beat writers have to find something to talk about. Enter Pete Prisco's latest list at CBS Sports listing the NFL's Top 100 players as he sees them heading into the 2012 year.
Charlie Weis has not been the head coach of Notre Dame since he was fired back in 2009 however he will be getting paid by Notre Dame through 2015.
Since 2009, Weis has had three different coaching jobs where he was the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2010, he held the same position with the Florida Gators in 2011 and now is the head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks.
Out with bronchial inflammation for the last few games, New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira says he's definitely not back to normal, but he is ready to get back on the field and work through his illness rather than sit out any more games. Given the state of the Kansas City Royals starting pitching staff, it might be a good time to try to get hot at the bat.
Kansas State basketball lost a family member on Saturday when former Wildcats star, NBA great and 1960 Olympian Bob Boozer passed away because of a brain aneurysm. Boozer was 75 years old and became ill on Friday according to his wife.
Cruz Pedregon set two new track records in the funny car division of the Dollar General NHRA Summernationals at Heartland Park in Topeka on Friday.
Pedregon set the two records in his second qualifying run on Friday. His elapsed time of 4.046 seconds at a speed of 315.56 mph in his funny car with a new Toyota Camry body were both track records. The previous record in both categories was set at this race a year ago by Jack Beckham.
Qualifying continues today in Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock for Sunday’s elimination finals.
Dallas Clark is making the rounds as an NFL free agent, and he hasn't yet caught on with any team even after spending time with a team in the market for a tight end like the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs were presumed to be the favorite for the former Colt by Peter King of Sports Illustrated, but then the Chiefs announced the signing of veteran TE Martin Rucker. Perhaps they're still in play, but for now Clark has moved on to visiting other teams like the New England Patriots.
After former Miami Dolphins safety Yeremiah Bell toured around several stops in the NFL, including the Kansas City Chiefs, he has now apparently decided on his final destination with a reported one-year deal with the New York Jets. If the Jets are going to let Jim Leonhard go, then this veteran acquisition makes sense.
Confirmed that Bell will sign 1yr, $1.4M deal with Jets. Full guarantees are $1.3M. #nyj

As ESPN's David Ubben looks ahead at the Big 12 football schedule in 2012, he recently made a list of the best five nonconference games to look forward to. Kansas State is playing one of those against the Miami Hurricanes, another hard foe on a schedule that will make things difficult for Bill Snyder to repeat his success of 2011.
When you examine the number of conference championships current Big 12 schools have won in all sports in the Big 12 era, the first thing that jumps out at you is how few times Missouri and Kansas State have been the best in the league.
The Wildcats trail all of the conference schools with only seven league championships in any sport, either in the regular season or in conference tournaments. Missouri is a close second for the fewest conference titles, with nine.
Texas leads all of the Big 12 schools with 116 team titles, largely in swimming and diving and track and field. Texas A&M has the second most Big 12 championships with 54.
Baylor, which has been especially strong in tennis (where the Bears have won 30 men’s and women’s titles combined), surprisingly is tied with Oklahoma, both with 43 conference championships. The Sooners’ strongholds have been in football, gymnastics and softball.
Kansas has posted 20 conference championships, most all of which have been in men’s basketball.
Adam Schein had Baltimore Ravens defensive star and NFL icon Ed Reed on his Sirius XM show today and he broke open some news that's bound to happen again as various stars come forward. Put simply, Reed brought up the idea that he might not want to play in 2012:
BREAKING: Reed is not 100% committed to playing this year.
— Adam Schein (@AdamSchein) May 17, 2012
Do the Ravens know he isn't 100% committed? Reed says, "I'm sure they will after this interview."
— Adam Schein (@AdamSchein) May 17, 2012
Now it's easy to analyze this one way or the other for the Ravens and specifically from Reed's perspective. If Reeds sits out 2012 or even retires, that's a major blow for a team that relies on a tough defense anchored in the back by one of the greatest safeties of his generation.
