ESPN's NFL Power Rankings Believe In The Chiefs Again

ESPN's NFL power rankings have been released and they've shown some faith in the Kansas City Chiefs.

Last week, ESPN ranked the Chiefs 10th. Then they went and lost to the Colts 19-9 in Indy.

This week: 10th again.

The defense seems real, but it needs support from the offense.

That's an understatement.

NFL Power Rankings: No. 12 Seems To Be Near Consensus For Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs cracked the top 10 in various NFL power rankings last week and even after the loss to the Indianapolis Colts the near consensus on the Chiefs at this point is about 12 in NFL power rankings.

The National Football Post is the latest group to rank the Chiefs at 12.

12. (13) Kansas City Chiefs: 3-1
Lose on the road at Indy, but the Chiefs will be a player in the AFC West all season long.

If you noticed, the Chiefs actually moved up in NFP's rankings. That's not a bad loss.

NFL Power Rankings Week 6: Kansas City Chiefs Defense Carrying Them

There's a theme we're seeing with a lot of these NFL power rankings in Week 6.

People will say the Chiefs defense is great but....

....how far can Matt Cassel carry them?

CBS Sports power rankings puts the Chiefs at No. 16:

After losing for the first time, it won't get any easier this week at Houston. But Matt Cassel has to do more. He just doesn't make enough plays down the field.

It's no secret Cassel is struggling this year and it appears the Chiefs are winning in spite of him, not because of him. How they handle that situation moving forward will be very important because the defense is ready to compete now.

NFL Power Rankings Week 6: Middle Of The Pack For The Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to receive top 10 to middle of the pack NFL power rankings.

SB Nation has released their power rankings and the Chiefs landed at No. 15.

How far should the Chiefs drop after taking the Colts to the wire? Peyton Manning said that Chiefs defense was pretty good. I think that defense can carry them to a few more wins this season.

The defense can carry the Chiefs to a few more wins, no doubt. The offense? Check back next week.

NFL Power Rankings Week 6: More Top 10 Rankings For Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are getting more NFL power rankings around the top 10.

This time around FOXSports.com puts them at No. 12.

Give Kansas City credit for playing a very competitive game during last week's loss at the Colts. The defensive improvement over last year has been very impressive so far. But at some point, the Chiefs won't be able to hide QB Matt Cassel.

I think people are recognizing the Chiefs are legit after playing the Colts tough. The next step will be a win against Houston next week.

NFL Power Rankings Week 6: Chiefs Still Hanging Around The Top 10

The Kansas City Chiefs are 3-1 and in first place of the AFC West.

In NFL power rankings across the web, we're starting to see them land anywhere from the top 10 to the middle of the pack.

Here's what Sporting News says about the Chiefs:

12. Kansas City Chiefs (9). Give them props for hanging with Indy. Now they have another chance at validation—and victory—at Houston.
Can't complain a whole lot about that one. This is probably accurate for the Chiefs after they hung around with the Colts.

NFL Power Rankings: Where Do The Kansas City Chiefs Land Now?

The Kansas City Chiefs were generally around No. 10 in a lot of the NFL power rankings we looked at last week. They were 3-0 but a team the media looked at with question marks.

Against the Indianapolis Colts, they lost. The Colts are among the elite teams so I don't think it surprised anyone that the Chiefs lost.

I do think, however, that many people were impressed with the way the Chiefs handled Peyton Manning and the Colts. They did a solid job for much of the game before falling 19-9.

So how far do you drop the Chiefs for losing?

I don't think you can drop them very far. This is the fourth straight game that the Chiefs defense has played like a top 5-10 group in the league. They're for real. They've gone a quarter of the season not allowing someone to score 20 points. They're giving up 15 points a game.

The defense is legit.

The offense, on the other hand, is becoming a problem, specifically (and only) the passing offense. Matt Cassel has played pretty miserable in three of the four games this year so I'm starting to think he's more like the guy we had in Week 1, Week 2 and Week 5 -- not the guy who put up three touchdowns in Week 3.
