NFL Picks Week 9: ESPN Split On Raiders And Chiefs

The Oakland Raiders will host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and NFL picks for Week 9 aren't sure who will win. ESPN has released their picks for the week and they're split on the winner. Vegas says the Raiders will win but the Chiefs have been a tough out all season and sit at first place in the AFC West.

Picked the Chiefs: Eric Allen, MIke Golic, Chris Mortensen, Adam Schefter and Seth Wickersham.

Picked the Raiders: Merrill Hoge, Ron Jaworkski, Mark Schlereth, Accuscore (computer simulation) and Fan Pick 'em.

I've laid out plenty of reasons the Chiefs can win this game. They're healthy, haven't really been stopped in the running game this year and can stop the run, which is the Raiders biggest strength. On the other hand the Raiders are coming off two weeks in which they've scored a total of 92 points. They're running the ball very, very well and have won three of four in all. They're not going to be an easy out by any means.

We'll find out on Sunday if the Chiefs can take care of business on the road against Oakland as they've done for seven consecutive years.

NFL Picks Week 9: Peter King Predicts Raiders Over Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are three point underdogs (depending on where you look) against the Oakland Raiders at the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum on Sunday. NFL picks for Week 9 are starting to come in and some predictions are indicating a Raiders victory. The Raiders have been on fire lately putting up 33 and 59 points in the last two weeks. Are they for real? Peter King of SI.com seems to think so:

Covered this league for a long time. Not sure I've ever seen a team go from losing to weaklings Arizona and San Francisco in the midst of a 1-3 stretch, then beat two teams by a combined 75 points. I tend to think the Raiders might be for real. The Chiefs' hope rests on Matt Cassel, who must take advantage of either the absence of Nnamdi Asomugha or Asomugha playing at 80 percent because of a bum ankle. Gut feeling: I doubt Nnamdi plays.
His final score prediction: Raiders 20 Chiefs 12.

That would be surprising to me just like it was last week when the Chiefs rushed for over 200 yards and no touchdowns. I think that's the exception and not the rule. I like the Chiefs running backs (again) this week.

NFL Picks Week 9: Raiders Are 3-Point Favorites Over Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs will enter the Black Hole on Sunday to play the Oakland Raiders. The Chiefs enter the game as three point underdogs against their rival Raiders. The line seems slightly high but acceptable because, whether it's the Chiefs fault or not, they haven't consistently beat top teams. The Chiefs will play whoever's on their schedule -- so don't blame them -- but that's a reason they're still considered unproven.

I will confidently say the Chiefs are the better team in this game. They rush the ball better than the Raiders. In fact, they're the only team that rushes the ball better than the No. 2 ranked Oakland rush offense. They can stop the run and that's clearly the strength of the Raiders offense. Their special teams has been solid all year and they'll need it on Sunday against Shane Lechler, one of the top punters in the NFL.

So I do think the Chiefs are the better team. They've been beating teams that they should, like the Raiders. I suspect the Chiefs take this one again in Oakland. They haven't lost in Oakland in seven years so history is on their side.

My prediction for the game will be 24-16 in favor of the Chiefs.
