Official: Tom Brady Injury Puts Matt Cassel In 2011 Pro Bowl

It's official: Matt Cassel is in the Pro Bowl. A Boston TV report came out on Wednesday night that New England Patriots QB Tom Brady would not be playing in the 2011 Pro Bowl because of a foot injury and he would be replaced by Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel.

The Chiefs confirmed the news so it's a done deal. Cassel is a Pro Bowler.

He becomes the fourth Chiefs player to join the 2011 Pro Bowl roster. Already selected were RB Jamaal Charles, WR Dwayne Bowe and G Brian Waters.

LB Derrick Johnson said a couple of weeks ago that he's an alternate for the Pro Bowl but he's not sure where on the list he is. Baltimore Ravens LB Ray Lewis and Patriots LB Jerod Mayo are currently slotted to be the inside linebackers.

Cassel's final numbers include a 58.2 completion percentage, 3,116 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Report: Chiefs QB Matt Cassel To Pro Bowl Replacing Patriots QB Tom Brady

Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel made a huge jump in 2010 and that's landed him in the Pro Bowl. Indeed, the Chiefs have a Pro Bowl quarterback. According to a Boston TV report, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady will not play in the 2011 Pro Bowl due to a foot injury. The report states that Cassel will replace him.

Cassel will be joining a group that includes Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning and San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers. So Brady, Manning, Rivers...and Cassel.

On the season, Cassel completed 58 percent of his passes for 3,116 yards. The money stat with him is the touchdown to interception ratio as Cassel had 27 touchdown passes and seven interceptions during the regular season. Compared to 2009 when he threw 16 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, the leap he took was impressive. He had one stretch during the year when he threw 10 touchdown passes and no interceptions in three games.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs his last two performances of the year were also his worst but that shouldn't overshadow Cassel's season. Duplicating these stats next year will be a goal but the bar has been set very high.

The Chiefs had three players voted to the Pro Bowl this year including RB Jamaal Charles, WR Dwayne Bowe and G Brian Waters. LB Derrick Johnson is an alternate.

If the Pro Bowl is anything like last year, we'll see another quarterback or two pull out of the game but remember that Cassel was apparently the first alternate.
