2011 NFL Mock Draft: Possible Casey Wiegmann Retirement Changes Chiefs Direction

Stay connected for news and updates

One year ago, you could have said the Chiefs were growing gray along the interior offensive line. They’d just signed center Casey Wiegmann at the end of his career arc. Brian Waters had served as a staple at left guard for several seasons. New free agent signee Ryan Lilja is in his late-twenties. For that reason, the Chiefs went out and grabbed OL Jon Asamoah in the 2010 draft.

Fast forward one year and nothing has changed. Wiegmann might be retiring, but Waters is still in place, Lilja is one year older and a bit more youth and developing talent is needed in place. For that reason, recent mocks have the Chiefs addressing the position with an early pick.

Some mocks, like the latest from CBS Sports, has the Chiefs grabbing Florida OL Mike Pouncey. Even Arrowhead Addict has the Chiefs taking Penn State center Stefen Wisniewski with their first pick. Either way, it seems writers are now leaning toward the interior offensive line.
