NFL Draft: Second Round Mocks Have Chiefs Addressing Lines

The Chiefs grabbed a skill position in round one, a much needed addition of Pitt’s Jonathan Baldwin to pair opposite Dwayne Bowe. Now, draft analysts like Mel Kiper have the Chiefs taking an offensive lineman.

Kiper specifically has the Chiefs grabbing Orlando Franklin, a guard from Miami (FL). He writes that Franklin provides “added protection for Matt Cassel and a good run blocker as Scott Pioli builds his lines.” Scouts, Inc. like his measurements and skills, but question his injury history and attitude problems.

CBS Sports’ Chad Reuter has the Chiefs taking Florida State OG/C Rodney Hudson. He writes, “The Brian Waters clone could step in at center immediately to help keep Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones productive, as well as protect QB Matt Cassel.”

Defensive tackle is still a possibility if names like Stephen Paea are still on the board, and you have to wonder if Leonard Hankerson or Randall Cobb are still around if the Chiefs would load up at receiver two picks in a row to maximize Matt Cassel’s options.

As Scott Pioli showed, it’s difficult to predict what the Chiefs front office will do on draft day. But you have to trust the process given the recent returns.
