The Kansas City Chiefs defense has not been good so far in 2012, and that's contributed plenty to the team's 1-5 start. The Chiefs allow 30.5 points per game, third-worst in the NFL. In the one game that the Chiefs have held an opponent under 20 points - holding the Ravens to three field goals in Week 5 - the Chiefs offense could only muster two field goals of its own.

Chiefs head coach and defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel told Bob Gretz he's most disappointed that the defense gives up "too many big plays which allow points and on defense, there are a thousand different stats that you have, but the one that means the most and makes the most difference is the points allowed."

The Chiefs do rank 18th in the NFL in yards allowed per game (349.5), but they give up 6.3 yards per play, fourth-worst in the league.

Crennel also told Gretz that if a team can hold the opponent to "17 points per game or something like that, then your chances of winning are pretty good and you’re going to be one of the better defensive teams in the league if you can get that done."
