The Kansas City Chiefs haven't been able to catch a break this season, and their injury woes only got worse on Thursday Night Football, losing the game and a handful of players against the Chargers.
Rookie guard Jeff Allen was the first to get knocked out of the game, suffering what appeared to be a head injury in the first half. He did not return and the injury was speculated to be a possible concussion after he left the field.
Glenn Dorsey was removed from the game as well after he apparently suffered more damage to the injured calf that had already sidelined him for several weeks earlier in the season. Going down near the end of the second quarter, he grabbed his calf on a play and required the help of the medical staff to get off the field.
The most high-profile injury that the Chiefs suffered was to their star running back, Jamaal Charles.
Charles suffered a neck injury on a helmet-to-helmet hit in the fourth quarter and was listed as "questionable" to return to the game. He, like the other two injured players, did not see the field again during the 31-13 loss.

After three quarters of the NFL Thursday night matchup, the San Diego Chargers lead the Kansas City Chiefs 10-6. The Chiefs had the best of the third quarter action. After a three-and-out series on the first possession of the second half, the Chiefs recovered a muffed punt deep in Chargers territory. However, the Kansas City offense managed only three yards, and kicker Ryan Succop missed a 39-yard field goal attempt.
San Diego ran a short series that crossed midfield before punting the ball back to Kansas City. The Chiefs then executed a 10-play, 66-yard series that ended in a Succop 41-yard field goal. San Diego had driven the ball to the Chiefs' 38 as the quarter came to an end.
Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe now has seven receptions on the night, recording 74 receiving yards. Jamaal Charles has added 38 rushing yards on 11 attempts. San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers remains nearly perfect, now 17/19 passing on the evening.

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has been nearly perfect and Kansas City gave up a key fumble in San Diego territory, combining to give the Chargers a 10-3 lead at halftime of their Thursday night game. The Chargers established an early lead when they took the opening kickoff on a 67-yard scoring drive, capped with a Rivers touchdown pass to Antonio Gates. Kansas City responded with a seventeen-play drive that took the Chiefs to the San Diego 33, but Dwayne Bowe fumbled the ball away and left Kansas City scoreless.
San Diego's lead extended to ten points with a Nick Novak 25-yard field goal with nine minutes left in the house. A Ryan Succop 49-yard field goal got Kansas City on the board with three minutes left in the half. San Diego was driving for another score as the half ended when Rivers threw an interception in the end zone.
Rivers completed his first fourteen pass attempts before an incompletion and interception ended the half. He has 179 yards passing with one touchdown.
Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel is 7/11 passing for 66 yards. Dwayne Bowe caught five of those seven completions for 51 receiving yards.

The San Diego Chargers marched down the field on the opening drive of the game on a seven play, 80 yard drive that finished with a 14 yard pass from Philip Rivers to tight end Antonio Gates. Rivers was a perfect 4 for 4 on the drive, throwing for 70 yards on the way to pay dirt, including a 28 yard completion to Seyi Ajirotutu who was signed by the Chargers on Tuesday.
The Kansas City Chiefs responded with a dramatic drive of their own. Quarterback Matt Cassel threw for three straight long third down conversions but facing third and 15 from the Chargers 33-yard line, Cassel completed a screen pass to Dwayne Bowe which Bowe fumbled away to San Diego at the 22 yard line.
Cassel finished the quarter going 5 for 9 with 54 yards of passing. San Diego's rushing defense held three Kansas City running backs (Jamaal Charles, Peyton Hillis and Dexter McCluster to six yards of rushing on six carries.

It's been a long year for Glenn Dorsey, one he'd like to forget. The same could be said for the Kansas City Chiefs. It's not clear just how much those two things correlate, but the Chiefs might find out tonight as the defensive line will be energized with the addition of starting defensive end Glenn Dorsey for the first time since Week 3 against the San Diego Chargers.
The Chiefs and Chargers square off tonight for their second AFC West battle of the season on Thursday Night Football, and it's a good time for Dorsey to show up again. He's in the middle of a contract year, so a solid showing on primetime would go a long way toward reestablishing his value.
A calf injury has kept him out for the last several weeks, and statistically he only has three tackles on the season. The Chiefs defense has struggled all season, so it's hard to tell whether it's any single player or largely the fault of the coaching staff. Still it can't hurt to finally have the line that everyone hoped they would with Tyson Jackson, Dontari Poe and Dorsey lined up in the base defense.
For the sake of his long-term value and the Chiefs minuscule chances at competition this season, here's hoping that Dorsey comes back strong and helps anchor the run defense against San Diego.

The Kansas City Chiefs have not led at any time in a game this season in regulation. It's impossible to win that way, and save one narrow overtime win, the Chiefs haven't.
