Todd Haley 'proud' of his time, accomplishments with Chiefs

Jeff Zelevansky

Former Chiefs coach Todd Haley still has great memories of his first NFL coaching gig with Kansas City from 2009-2011.

Though his career in Kansas City only lasted three seasons, former Chiefs head coach Todd Haley spoke fondly of his days at Arrowhead Stadium to Teresa Varley of PittsburghSteelers.com heading into his team's Week 10 game on Monday Night Football.

The 45-year-old Haley bounced back from a rough 4-12 record in his inaugural season to lead the Chiefs to a 10-6 mark and AFC playoff berth the following year. And while injuries and poor play eventually helped lead to his dismissal after just 13 games in 2011, Haley still believes that his hand-picked roster made major strides considering the situation.

"I’m very proud, number one, of the things myself and the players were able to accomplish," Haley said. "Even taking the 2010 division win out of the equation, last year was probably the year I was most proud of because in difficult circumstances we battled back and won four games in a row, which is hard to do in this league. I thought we made a lot of progress."

Haley admits that he hasn't had a chance to check out the play of some of his former building-block offensive weapons like Jamaal Charles and Jonathan Baldwin this year, but continues to have the utmost confidence that some of his former players will continue to turn heads with their strong play. While it sounds like Haley has nothing but good memories from his Kansas City days, it remains to be seen if his in-depth knowledge of Kansas City's organization will be an asset for the Steelers in Week 10.
