Dexter McCluster injury update: Chiefs WR removed from Broncos game

Peter Aiken

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dexter McCluster injured his head and neck in a Week 12 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dexter McCluster departed a Week 12 game against the Denver Broncos with a head and neck injury. The exact play where the speedy wideout was injured was not immediately known, but the press box announcement was made at the start of the second half and he did not return.

McCluster was one of the few bright spots on the offensive side of the ball for the Chiefs. Kansas City put together several sustained drives in the first half, but repeated trips deep into Denver territory resulted in only Ryan Succop field goals. A McCluster 19-yard catch down the right side was the biggest play of the Chiefs' opening possession, a drive that gave Kansas City an early 3-0 lead.

Kansas City was already shorthanded at wideout, with both Devon Wylie and Steve Breaston inactive for the Week 12 game against their AFC West rival. The Chiefs managed just three second-half points in a game that was competitive for the full four quarters. McCluster certainly would have aided a second-half attack that appeared to be stuck in neutral and could not create any big plays against the Broncos defense.
