Ben Roethlisberger presents challenge for Chiefs' defense

Peter Aiken

The Chiefs' defense is preparing to slow Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who is a "force to be reckoned with."

If the Kansas City Chiefs are going to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night in Week 10, they will likely have to make life uncomfortable for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Chiefs defenders know this and spoke about the challenge this week.

"He just makes plays. He gets the ball in the hands of the playmakers and that's what he does," Chiefs safety Eric Berry said. "If it comes down to it, he knows how to scramble and he's a big guy, so it's hard to bring him down.

"He's going to keep fighting and try to get that ball off and try to get his team in the position to win."

This season, Roethlisberger has thrown for 2,203 yards, completing 67.1 percent of his throws, with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions. His penchant for making something out of broken plays is one area that Kansas City will be focusing in on.

"He's a playmaker. You draw the play up and it doesn't always go like it's supposed to because he extends the plays," linebacker Derrick Johnson said. "He's a big guy, somehow you have to get the ball out of his hands.

"Tamba Hali and Justin Houston are going to be tired during the game because we're definitely going to try to get after him a lot and we need them to do good and play at a high level because Big Ben is a force to be reckoned with."
