Kendrick Lewis says Chiefs should recognize Todd Haley's offense

Ron Chenoy-US PRESSWIRE

The Kansas City Chiefs face a familiar foe on Monday in Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley.

The Kansas City Chiefs (1-7) head out on the road to face the Pittsburgh Steelers (5-3) on Monday, and for the first time will be facing former head coach Todd Haley. Safety Kendrick Lewis says that the defense should be familiar with the Haley and the Steelers offense.

"Yeah, it's similar because as we study film and as you go back to when he was here you see some of the same things," said Kendrick. "They've tweaked a few things here and there dealing with the personnel and the type of speed they've got there. It wasn't matched up to what we had here as far as speed-wise. But you know, they tweaked a few things here and there, but for the most part he stayed with his same offensive mindset and his same offensive plans."

The Steelers offensive coordinator was 19-26 in three seasons with the Chiefs, taking Kansas City to the postseason in 2010 with a 10-6 record. After a meltdown against the New York Jets in December 2011, Haley was fired in favor of defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel. The Chiefs promoted Crennel to the full-time head coaching position in the offseason.

Under Crennel, the Chiefs have yet to possess a lead in regulation and despite possessing the No. 3 rushing offense in the NFL the team sits near the bottom of the league in scoring at 16.6 points per game. The Chiefs have bounced back and forth between starting quarterbacks Matt Cassell and Brady Quinn, and average just 207 yards per game through the air.

The Steelers are No. 13 in the NFL with 23.9 points per game.

The Chiefs take on the Steelers on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. CT.
