Vikings Reportedly Set To Release Guards Steve Hutchinson And Anthony Herrera

The Pioneer Press in Minnesota is reporting that the Vikings are set to release starting offensive guards Steve Hutchinson and Anthony Herrera at some point soon. It’s an interesting move that brings the heralded Hutchinson to the open market and gives those teams in need of some interior line help more products to choose from.

Carl Nicks is a player we’ve already profiled and the Saints guard has said he’s ready to be the highest paid player at his position. Interestingly enough, he’ll be among a free agent group that includes the player who once set that bar in Hutchinson. The Vikings veteran was made the highest paid guard by the Vikings in 2006 when they signed him to a seven-year deal worth $49 million from the Seattle Seahawks in the famous “poison-pill” contract.

NIcks and Hutchinson are among several interior linemen hoping to stake their claim on another solid payout and starting spot in the NFL. The Chiefs will have the chance to bolster the spot currently occupied by Ryan Lilja, if they so choose, or at least grab a back-up to help with depth along the line.
