NFL Free Agency 2012: Brandon Carr To Dallas On 5-Year, $50.1 Million Contract

The question was never if, but when with Brandon Carr. When would Brandon Carr sign with a new team and leave behind his four-year stint with the Kansas City Chiefs. When the Dallas Cowboys cut CB Terence Newman that was the initial sign, and on Wednesday it became official as Carr signed up to be his replacement.

According to ESPN, the Cowboys signed Brandon Carr to a five-year, $50.1 million contract. Carr had officially become a free agent after the Chiefs decided not to offer to the 5th-round draft pick out of Grand Valley State. Carr was considered as one of the top cornerbacks on the market.

By $100K, Carr has surpassed Cortland Finnegan's $50 million deal from the Titans over five years. Carr is now the highest paid cornerback in the 2012 free agency period. The addition of Carr should help the Cowboys pass defense, as Dallas finished 23rd in the NFL last year. Replacing Newman with Carr is a solid upgrade.
