Chiefs' Switch From Brandon Carr To Stanford Routt Grades Poorly For CBS Sports

As Pete Prisco of CBS Sports "rates the replacements" thus far in NFL free agency, the Kansas City Chiefs are earning a rare low grade compared to many others who give them high marks overall. But specifically when analyzing the Chiefs' move at cornerback from Brandon Carr starting opposite Brandon Flowers to Stanford Routt. The move was likely necessary at this late juncture, but the team could have made a move to lock up Carr long-term before this season. Alas, everyone has moved on.

Prisco gives the move a "C" grade and writes, 'Routt was given a huge contract by the Raiders last year, then flopped and was released. That was an Al Davis move. The new regime decided he wasn't worth the money. The Chiefs signed him with the anticipation they might lose Carr. Routt can be a good man-cover player, but he wasn't last season. Carr was. Routt isn't the same type of player."

Routt was once a heralded cornerback enough for the Raiders to sign him to the big-time deal and the KC deal is definitely much more palatable than Carr's with Dallas. It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs further bolster the position or rely on the growth of young players like Jalil Brown.
