2012 NFL Draft: Chiefs Free Agency Signings Allow Team To Avoid Drafting For Need, Per Romeo Crennel

According to Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel, the team's free agency signings allow them to avoid drafting for need in the upcoming 2012 NFL draft.

From The Kansas City Star's Adam Teicher:

"We've done a nice job of addressing some needs through free agency," Crennel said from Palm Beach, Fla., site of the NFL's annual meetings. "We've put ourselves in position, with the needs we filled, that when we go into the draft, we can look at the best athlete available and the guy we think can help our team the most.

"We won't have to draft for need. That gives us many more options."

The Chiefs have done a good job in free agency to bring in a decent crop of new players that should add with drafted players to give the team a more competitive team in 2012. They've signed tight end Kevin Boss, running back Peyton Hillis, quarterback Brady Quinn and offensive tackle Eric Winston.

While they've lost a handful of players, including cornerback Brandon Carr, they still should be able to grab the best player available when they go on the clock in the first round at No. 11.

Crennel said that the Chiefs will be looking to get more speed on the team and that there isn't a team that could use more pass rushers, but he's happy with the way the team is built right now.

"We have guys at most of the positions that are competitive and will be competitive," Crennel said. "You can never have enough speed on your team, enough pass rushers on your team. We're always looking for corners, we're always looking for pass rushers, we're always looking for speed receivers. If you can pick up some help in any of those areas, you've helped your team."
